I hate to say it, but that was the only good vehicle to come from the BMW/ROVER thing.

Dealers were selling them at 40% off on the very week after the failure of the venture was announced.

After all this stuff was sorted and BMW gave out a heap of cash to take the lemon off their hands, Rover was one of my clients up at Warwick University. What a fiasco that was and run by a bunch of know nothing morons. They let the Indians have all their R&D data before the rescue deal was signed. The Indians then said "thanks for the free IP and goodbye. We got what we wanted and it was FOC"

Still..... at least the directors got their gravy train pensions sorted out before the collapse. Dumb arse know nothing selfish shit for brains wankers.

Agree YD, it was the best thing to come out of the BMW deal.

Also, should I sell my landcrab for this?

That's a fine example! However IMO your Land Crab is a better car.

Now if it was the, one year newer, 1700 OHV unit

You reckon the 1.7L is better? on that note, I've never seen a 1.7L wedge for sale here in NZ. Plenty of 2.0L ones, have only seen 1.8Ls in the last year or so.

I prefer the 1.8L as I know the engine and it's virtually a landcrab, but pointy.

If you virtually know the engine, then that's the one to get

My personal favorite is the last of them, the 2 lt. HL. I had a 1700 OHC Marina and it was bullet proof except for the front shocks. Great comfort on a long trip and enough torque to keep up on the hills.

Hey Ed, that's spot on. I had the 1700 engine in my 1979 Marina and apart from the front shocks being too soft (as standard), the engine was super and as quick as most of my friends 2.0 power units. I advanced the timing by 10% on mine, as I was very much a higher revs driver in those days, because I was young and stupid. OK.. OK.. Younger and Stupider .

Yep! Up the Albany hill, a 2lt Cortina could only keep up with me, but not gain on me. Mine was a 1980 and I had it on CNG for most of the time.

My MK1 Cortina would of got you up the albany hill.
You would be still going past the xmas tree farm down the other side as I was pulling into dairy flat.

Stock? I had a tidy Mk 2 1600 manual, but I reckon the Marina was faster.

Well, not really. Had a couple of wee tweeks and a couple of extra cylinders, but was still a MK1 body.
