Just spent 10 minutes chatting with an old guy at the Birkenhead shops with a beautiful silver Triumph Stag. A stunning example.

I said, "surely this is not in original condition", as I'd noticed one or two minor blemishes on the front wing welds. He said that "it couldn't be original as Metalic Silver was not an option when he bought her". He said that he had her resprayed 7 years ago and has otherwise just been looking after her well and has kept the car as original as possible.

"not the engine though, I asked"

"It has its original engine and original gearbox for 319,000 miles, and still going strong."

He says he suspect that Triumph had crap owners, rather than crap engines and gearboxes, back in the early days

I'm impressed, where are the pictures? Stag's are very sexy

I enjoy looking at most pre 1980 cars, they seem to have style and character then. Now they're all just safety shit boxes.

Funny thing is the only Vauxhall I've ever owned was a '70 PC Cresta! Lovely to travel in, but apart from the Chevette's which I still liked somewhat, it's really the pre-80's that I really like and can't think of any models I wouldn't own if I had the chance.

I miss my 79' Chevanne. There is just something cool about 4 seater 2 door wagons. Plus mine had a mint AWA radio with speaker (yes only one). And "performance" headers.......rather than than the standard "industrial" ones that looked like they were off a boiler.
But I (ok the whole street had a go) killed it eventually. Was a good car for $20 though. Even had a wof for 2 months.
