The Borgward group was the last fully family owned car maker in Europe, makes included Goliath, Lloyd, Hansa, (renamed Goliath). I think there was another one in there somewhere, but the old mind is slowing down. Must be the heat.
The group went bust because, according to experts at the time, they had too many competing models. eg. Borgward Arabella and Goliath/Hansa.
Spent some time chauffeuring a neighbour around in an Arabella. Loved it! 1100cc flat four fwd. Also had a cousin that owned a Borgward Isabella... the best known model in NZ. It was a beautiful car both to look at and to drive. I think they were about 1600cc. 2 door, but relatively roomy 4 seater.
