You uncouth person! Everyone, I mean Everyone, knows that that spectacular vehicle is a Recovery vehicle... The fact it tows another vehicle seems to slipped the notice of many in the UK. [Got well put in my place years ago when in the UK and saying that a car was towed away by a tow truck. Almost as good as going swimming in your "togs"!]

Nah, a recovery truck to me is something with a flatbed, a tow truck should be a 1 ton ute or a j series bedford, with fat wheels and a v8.

na what i was saying is the money, time, devlopment spent on Toyota's NEW V8 diesel turbo in the landCRUISER could have been cheaper to devlop a 2 cycle diesel producing the same power.

The first Nissan trucks, the long snout model, was a 2 stroke diesel - UD stands for Uniflow diesel, I never seen one in the flesh. Many years ago I read that Nissan had a 2 stroke car engine in development, with full pressure bottom end and camshafts and valves....I took that to be diesel. The 2 stroke diesel is very efficient, as I mentioned the Foden was 250 cu in, the TS3 202 cu in, and the GMC and Detroits are not that big either, but it seems they can't meet modern emission targets. I don't know why, they have complete scavenging.

went googling seems they are a 2 STROKE OPOSSED PISTON 3 CYLINDER DIESEL BUILT IN THE 60S (3 cyl, 6piston, 2 cranks)

I know a chap with a Marvin (I think) and it's a two stroke oil burning beast, sounds grouse.

by oil burning do you mean a petrol stroker? cos a diesel stroker shouldnt burn any oil... and 'Marvin' brings nout up on trucks in google?

It's a diesel stroker

I call any diesel an oil burner
Marvin is the name that comes to mind, but I am probably horribly mistaken. It's something supposedly rare and it's gold.
I don't pay much attention to trucks

Well it's not a rubbish truck. So I've probably said some totally unrelated name and it'll come to me on my way to Christchurch in August and I'll forget again by the time I get there
