Yes the 'R' is quite a bit more and I'm not looking to drive it hard. The engine's more likely to be in need of an attention with an 'R'.

I'll keep an open mind though. The convertible is also very tempting and might help get the Mrs on side.

The XK8 is quite comfortable in the front seats. Why they don't take the rear seating more seriously, I'll never know. They're good for young kids though and you realy don't need a child seat ('cos there's no room).

XFR is nice. 6ft, size 12 boots nice. I felt rather comfy in one.
Engine is same size - but at 5-hundy and something hp about 5 times as powerful as my ol XJS12 was. No cancel that - about 10 times more powerful.....even if the XJS had the timing fixed.

Been watching Talking trucks AGAIN. Apparently there were a couple of theses special purpose RL bedford fire response trucks that came into NZ. Any body know where?

Apart from the obvious colour clue, the single rear wheels and tread pattern make it an Army RL. The Airforce RL's had dual rear wheels. I had an ex Army RL - I put a flat deck on it...was a good shop hack.

I love the XK8, beaut car to stroll along in. I'm not too sure, but I think early non R models ran the ZF5HP24? I personally wouldn't be too convinced it'd hold up to the torque. But, either way, that body kit is going to look superb

Apparently there where a few that came to NZ, but I have not seen one, not in its original state anyway. A lot of them were never used much according to the guy on tv and spent most of their time sitting in aeroplane hangers and the like. I would imagine they would of been pretty loud to drive, just by looking at them.
Something about them really appeals to me though.

The RL had an S model cab, just higher so had lower headlamps. Much more fun to drive than a TK. Climb up on the wheel step and open the door, which is half height, it was a step down into the cab. 300 cu in petrol engine beside you, but it wasn't too noisy, lots of fan noise. The RL was very manoeuvrable, I used to drive mine around town like it was a car. It used to be a bit of a drama to park my Dodge AT4 on the front lawn - hard right and up a small bank and under the tree, wheel spin and a 3 point turn. The RL just drove up and parked.

Spent a lot of time in an old TK carting hay when I was a teenager, was a nightmare coming down some of the steeper hills because the brakes used to fade away to nothing. There used to be a couple of decent sized holes in the floor and the heat coming through there in summer was a real bugga. Fond memories.
The front of the RL reminds me of an old mercedes truck I was driving for a mate doing some silage on some steep country in the Catlins last december, that was 4x4 too but we had to run a chain from the top of the bin to a big new holland tractor further up the hill, to stop the merc from tipping over.
Those silage choppers can handle some steep country we found out.

Not a Leyland, but it's old and I had to get out the SAE and even some Whitworth to do a clutch and service on this Massey Fergusen. Had it split and we were walking between the 2 halves for a few days, just back together today.

Trying not to think about buying another bike. Need something economical and I'm only doing long trips in my own stuff. So a bike makes sense... and bikes make sense in my mind... cars are beige. Well, the bossman took me out in his Focus RS the other day, that wasn't so beige.


Anyhoo, cheap classicish/old cars? Wouldn't mind a 1100/1300, coz they're purty, but not very fun
