Yes, because they believe his expectations to be unrealistic.

    Here's a thought.

Maybe the goal is not to raise the minimum wage, but to upskill and work your way into a position where you don't earn the minimum wage. That is a start. It is a baseline. The possibilities for his daughter is limitless. She has access to interest free student loans. She has the ability to do night classes. She can even go to a library and get some self help books and start learning herself.

The answer is not to "get a better deal for her", but for her to find a better deal. You can't just "raise the minimum wage" to suddenly solve that problem.

I'm not sure that Labour has anyone to put up in 2011 - well, anyone who wants the job right now. I suspect they're all waiting for Goff to lose 2011 to challenge for the leadership going into 2014.

Which is bad news for Labour voters, of course, but meh.

My view is there will always be jobs that will pay minimum wage, ie Super Market shelf stackers, Super markets couldn't operate with out them, but neither afford to pay them $30 an hour. there will always be people for one reason or another who will take minimum wage, they are valuble for the Job they do, and in many casses make it possible for those of us on better wages to do the job we do.

    Precisely!

Maybe that isn't enough. If that's his best, she is probably better off standing on her own two feet, rather than his.

Kinda pales compared to the news proclaiming (that out of a poll of 700 people) John Key is no. 1 hot politician. (Yes, in terms of sexiness apparently).

Maybe they should redefine their parameters or qualifications for "hot".

210 dollers a week doesnt sound like much, But add that up every week for 18ish years and that comes to a fair bit when you add taxes.

That should cover there uni expense and all that jazz.
Good for you. It's a hard environment out there for people looking for work, especially those leaving school. Heck, I wouldn't want to be going through it!
Also a problem I've noticed is that young people, while they obviously have to be able to afford to "live", seem to want maximum $ with little or no experience and have a penchant for living beyond their financial means. Now, that's a blanket generalisation so I apologise to those young people and their parents who live on limited income and do scrimp and save to make ends meet. But there are a lot who want to be able to have their own vehicle, party with their mates, live in their own place cos their style is too cramped by living with "the olds".

Our daughter would love to go flatting but she is finding the struggle to save and the temptation to spend making that a bit of a pipe dream at the moment. (Nah she just loves her mum and dad! - well that's what I keep telling myself!)

Precisely my point. Key does not even try and hide his hyprocracy. Some might see that as some form of honesty. I see it as one of indifference to the accepted norms of integrity.

Doubt that. Something tells me if he told his daughter to upskill, and in the same hand tells key her wage is too low.......well its pretty much a no brainer.
What does he 'hope' that in future his daughter will get more money without completing her upskilling.
Sounds very much like telling someone to take the stairs while you try the escalator.
As for Key's commentary - if you trust ANYTHING a politician says, your a bigger fool that I......and I still lick 9v batteries.
