    Could not believe our ears!

So here's the 3 of us (new baby Caleb in his capsule included) are out at Porirua Shopping Centre out to get some baby clothes. Before we venture into a shop outside in the carpark, we see a mother and son who's about 7-8 years old. Next thing we hear him screaming at his Mum (who's of the, shall we say, "lower class" origin !!) and I virtually quote "I don't want to go into the fucking shop. Take me fucking home right now. I want a fucking ice-cream !!"
Our jaws dropped in amazement that a kid so young could be so fluent in profanity !!!
The "mother" just shrugged it off....

Sheez,..when I was young, if I said even "bloody" then I got belted hard so I knew not to do it and have respect around my parents. This kid had none whatsoever. Obviously what he's used to hearing around the so-called household....

heh, yup almost every time i'm out i hear the same thing... the last one was a paknsave, Porirua... was sitting waiting for the wife to come back with the foooood and saw the man, his missus and their 4-5 year old boy... they got to the car, she opened the door and he ordered, "get in the fuckin car ya little bastard"... hmmmm... i've recently been talkin to my eldeset about the word piss! she heard a kid at school, again, another fluent in profanity...

Tis fucked up Nudes... some parents just accept it as the language of the day... i'm half inclined to agree with them, after all it's just words... and who is it really offending? I dunno, like i say i'm half and half on that, but hear it, at least once, whenever i'm out...

Well yeah, they are just words and it is easy or easier to think I should just ignore them. My 11 year old boy has a bit of a potty mouth (takes after his Mum) and while he may swear I make the effort to at least teach him when it is appropriate and not. For instance if he tried the above example then Sue Bradford would have me in jail.

It's about respect, me for him and he for those around him.

Dunno if you've read any of the threads about my last HNZC neighbours that I had removed (made me the neighbourhood hero lol, 3 months after I moved in they were kicked out!)

Part of the complaints I had about them was to CYFS. I caught on video camera, a 3 year old girl, thrown onto the deck, and screamed right up close in her face by the big black bitch person in charge of her (she was no mother) "you are a fucking piece of shit, you fucken discusting motherfucker". Including the parties, foul language, and abuse, CYFS were more interested in profiling me the quiet professional with no criminal record. That was only one minor thing I saw happen to those kids.

Those kids have no chance. So much for putting a HNZC house in working class areas to avoid creating bronx's everywhere. They just ruin a whole neighbourhood that they're moved into.

So, it is probably got a lot to do with the parents.

Exactly. Does'nt matter what area they're in, they'll imitate their parents. (the bad stuff they see anyhow)

I do swear quite a lot myself but usually when out of earshot. I do think about my Dad using phrases like "well blow me down" or "Blow that for a game of soldiers" and laugh. But to his it was the same as FFS or similar.

It is an unfortunate sign of the times and I do hate it when some see fit to swear at full volume infront of others, particularly in front of children.

Before Christmas I swore badly after banging my head whilst working in my garage. Realising that my neighbour was ony a few metres away I went over to his house to apologies. He seemed to be ignoring me so I went off and assumed that I had really offended him. A week later we were both putting out the bins at the same time so I raised the issue. Again he ignored me, which I found to be very rude. So I went right up to his face and said "Can tyou not hear what I am saying?" to which he replied:
"You'll have to speak up, I only wear my hearing aids for work".

had a kid in at work a few months back. she was kicking up one hell of a stink about not getting something. mother dragged her out of the shop, and i could hear the kid out on the street screeching "i want itttttttt!!!!!!!!!!" took me a while to place where i "knew" the kid from... veruca salt from willy wonka. felt so sorry for the mother, but its probably her own doing.

personally, i dont swear to badly in front of my brothers kids... usually no worse than bloody hell. certainly not fuck or cunt, though they hear it from their parents anyway. been raised better than that. my parents swore in front of us, but never the two words mentioned.

I was always taught as a kid that using swear words only showed a lack of vocabulary.

People who swear when there is no need are really just showing themselves as being a bit dumb.

I swear when appropriate. If you swear all the time then it detracts from the times when swearing is really called for.

But it isn't just words. We communicate with each other using language. The particular words we choose are important and convey different meanings. Profane swear words are perfectly valid and exist to emphasise an experience or thought. However for them to retain effect, they are used sparingly so they have a shock value.

Saying about a meal "I don't like this shit" doesn't tell us anything. Its a shock word but empty of meaning. Sadly many people don't have descriptive words in their minds so they go for "shit". I abhor this.

Profanity is also violent language. It is used to put other people down, to be insulting. As such it should only be used when necessary.

Just shows you how versatile shit and fuck are. Personally If someone tells me a meal was shit then that conveys everything I need to know.

I think that qualifies as an understatement...

Like when you hit your thumb with the hammer? Or for my wife recently when son-in-law backed a trailer into our bike and knocked it over...? Neither of us swear as a matter of course, but I think the neighbourhood heard her that day... (She didn't go off at him, it was just that moment of alarm as she realised what was about to happen). He was very contrite, but little damage.
