Busted my shoulder

Well, well, driveways in Nelson are pretty damn steep I tell ya.

So I'm on my partners Triumph Tiger and it has a full tank of gas and I have gone and stepped way out of my ability and tried to bring the big girl down a bloody steep drive. I'm trying not to stall whilst trying to maneuver down this drive, I hit a bit of dirt on the edge of the drive and the front wheel goes out so fast from underneath me I don't know what's happened til I'm on the ground trying to get the big girl off me. Thank heavens for cell phones. Had to call my guy to come and lift the bike off my ankle. So off to A & E to report an accident at .01kms and hour. I've luckily just popped a ligament in the the shoulder, going to go get an x-ray soon.

So it's just a little torn ligament in my shoulder, Doc says very minor, bit of rest will do it. More work needed for the Tiger though. I took out the pillion peg as I hadn't put it in after out riding earlier and there is a lovely scratch/graze on the front guard. Thanks folks for your kind words, it's lovely to describe what's going on and have a couple of folks empathise.

Oh, what a shame, it is so easy to do, with a combination of low speeds and steep slopes. I've been riding for years and that is still a situation I hate. Glad you weren't hurt too badly, and hope Mr Man was understanding.

Yea I'm resting as much as I will let myself, my man is a nurse so I'm getting well looked after too. I want to get out on the bike today but I won't.

Sorry to hear that you put it down (but at least you provided a nice human cushion for it???) Hope your ankle heals up and that rest will take care of your shoulder.
Slow maneuvering like that where angle and gravel/dirt are involved makes me wary of taking my bike to addresses I'm not familiar with - even then, steep driveways that I'm more familiar with creep me out a little.

Good luck on the healing side, and fingers crossed that the bike fixes up good as new too.

Sorry to hear that and I know how you feel, manoevering down a steep gravel driveway in Havelock just a couple of weeks ago, I did the same thing, one minute I am upright the next on the ground, bike on top, just a few bruises for me but it happened so quickly. Just threw me really, so consious now of any gravel. Just a few minor scratches on my bike but surely did shake me up. Wish you well with your recovery, hope your feeling better real soon.

o boy! now I dont feel like such a twit. did the same thing last week. Welly has some awesomely interesting driveways. Got down the drive with no worries ( I used to drive trucks and am not scared of drives ) put my fooot down to stop and check for traffic. Rolled on a few bits of tiny stone...more embarrassed than anything. FOrtunatly Ratti is a rat bike so a bit more damage is barely noticeable.

Tell you what, when I had a Zthou back in my 20's I could pick it up with hardly any trouble at all...either I've lost the knack or I'm too bloody old now. SOd it.. I am seriously gonna add that to my list of skills to re-acquire.

How is the shoulder holding up? Make sure you get lots of physio - can take ages to heal!!!!!!
And little things like putting your bike jacket can hurt like a mother!
I hurt mine 2 years ago coming off a bike and it is always the first thing to get hurt if I do anything stoopid
