Heres a couple to consider for the nats, to combat cost control & competitor numbers
    1) Combine rounds with other major meetings (e.g 1st round coincides with 1st round of Tri--Series, Burt Munro event coincides with round down south (shift of date for the Burt though), 3rd round combines 1st round of Vic series, last round combines last round of Auckland club series etc.
    2) Run a "South Island" and "North Island" cup, as part of the series
    3) Run a 'double header" meeting , where over a three day weekend you run two points rounds
    4) Run two rounds only in both islands (preferably a weekend after each other in each island)
    5) Control tyres , or tyre limitation rules............... ;-)......... OMG , i can see the feedback on that one already..............

Food for thought - I,me sure there are plenty of other ideas out there........

Yes it would appear on the surface your right,But I put myself in that position for the betterment of the sport,A classic example of which happened at the National points round at Manfeild last year,When I offered my services as assisstant Clerk of the course as I knew the club was shortstaffed following the loss of Brett(Grub). On the Sunday night at prizegiving the late Shirley McNabb handed me an envelope. When I asked her what was in it,She replied that they were paying the volunteers. My reply was"I dont help out for money,I do it for the sport,However if you insist on paying me Ill send you an invoice,But be aware my charge out rate is $70.00 an hour,At which point we both laughed and walked away. The point being I do what I do because I can and when I think things are going pearshaped or the deal is souring I move on.I hold no malice towards anybody I have been involved with and wish all of them the best in their endeavours. It appears there are two factions of people helping within our sport,1 Those who do it because they want too see the sport move forward and dont consider personal cost,2 The people who want to have input,But at best wont allow it to cost them financially and/or are there partly too help line their own pockets. After close to 40 years involvement,I feel I know whos who and what their agendas are.Whatever happens will have no bearing on my influence,I will continue helping the people I think need and deserve it and when I do finally walk away from the sport,My conscience will be clear.

Im also sure you and many others have suffered the same fate,Thats just how it is in this sport and The people I feel for are the newbies trying to secure sponsorship

Giving the volunteers lunch and some petrol money is the least we can do, there would not be much racing without them.

Exactly...and, it is not payment as such, but rather reimbursement towards some of our costs.

Absolutely,In fact it was me that first started paying the flag marshalls,When I ran the winter series back in 94,It caused a lot of controversy at the time,I immediately had calls from Tim Gibbes and Rob Lester(Manfeild promotions)informing me "you cant start paying the flag marshalls or we will have too as well"Funny how its OK to pay Tim to lapscore nowdays aye???But thats a whole other story. The point was,Not everybody wants or needs to be reimbursed,Some people do it too improve the sport cause they want to.

    Incidently,Volunteers are unpaid !!
