eek First winter - gear advice needed

Coming up to my first winter on 2 wheels and I’m starting to wonder what I might need for the extra cold and wet weather.
I currently ride with an Ixon textile set (jacket and pants) plus some waterproof Gaerne boots and a pair of summer Dri Rider gloves.
My daily ride is across the bridge in to the city from the North Shore (about 25kms).
Riding home last night I noticed my hands were the coldest, then arms and top half of chest. Legs and feet were sweet. Bare in mind I wasn’t using the zip in liners on the jacket or pants.
I’m weighing up what I need to invest in to get me through winter. Reading a similar post about gloves it seemed the best option was go for glove covers that are completely water/wind proof and stick with the better protection you get from a summer/racing glove. Heated grips was also suggested…
In terms of jacket and pants, I know my Ixon stuff is pretty good in the rain, haven’t had a leak yet but haven’t ridden in really heavy rain. Do people use rain proof jackets/pants over textile stuff as well?
I want a set of leathers for their safety, but have been told the sport style I’m after is colder than textile. Can this be eliminated by wearing a good rain proof over jacket and pant? What else is recommended? Neck warmer? Thermals?

Your gear seems to be doing it ok so far..thermal as a minimum coming into winter.
The best' bit of kit' you could ever invest in is a rain suit.
Cuts out everything, wind chill/rain etc...
Even though your daily commute is not that long, you cannot afford to get cold, you will start to concerntrate on that rather than what you should be.

Yes a over suit is the answer, then youre dry (dryer than most textiles) and certainly safer.
get a neck warmer to this area allows alot of cold through and covering it is essential in winter. a layer of thermals is also another good idea.
Ive run out of fucks to give

Make sure you get some decent winter gloves! I used to commute every morning across the harbour bridge in the middle of winter, early morning. I tell ya what!! My commute was only 30 mintues and I wore Dri-rider winter gloves and I still could not feel my fingers after I got off the bike.

Do you read the paper ?
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

Won't those glove covers that say they stop wind and rain be enough?

More 'biking on a buget' tips....
We used that paper down the front one night not so long ago.
Someone turned up here around 9:30 pm in a t shirt and hoodie, he still had an hour or so ride, so the Sunday Star Times was put to good used.

Probably IceBreaker or the like. I am a fan of merino and wear leggings year round. Keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter. It was cold up this way yesterday, well certainly a LOT colder than it has been. I zipped in my thermal liners and replaced my gloves with something a bit warmer. Put on a layer of merino thismorning and hey presto instant warmth. Problem, I reduced the layers on the way hom tonight but was sweltering in places...Oh the joy
