To vet or not to vet?

Came home from valentines day brunch with hubby only to find Valentines day gift...a box of chocolates...opened, emptied and two hyperactive boxers in the living room!!! well, at least they left one for me.

Its a 419g box of Turtles Chocolate. they are caramel and pecan covered with chocolate each individually wrapped. I've looked up and down on the internet and I don't know if I should wait or take them to the vet. If they have already digested the chocolate there is not much the doctor can do...inducing vomiting will only cost me big bucks at the vet...x2 dogs!

should I wait it out, hubby has taken them to the field to run it off...hmmm...increased hyperactivity...running maniacal dogs...increased heart rate.... they are both young dogs Ruby is 2 and Sophie 1 1/2.

I think I will wait it out and see....don't want to incure hundreds of dollars in vet bills unnecessarily...:::insert worried look here!::: They are my babies and I don't want anything bad to happen to them...but I also don't want to jump the gun and run to the vet, if they can just let the chocolate hyperactivity wear itself off....I know I can expect it to come out on the other end also, but I don't know it was enough chocolate to be toxic for them.

Anyone else have their dogs eat chocolate? A whole box?

I wud'n worry about it, my dog is a chocolate thief and hasn't sufffered any long term affects from it!

Hey BB.......

It's generally the dark chocolate you have to really worry about....and being large dogs they would need to eat a fair bit to cause problems.....I have 2 shepherds who between them ate a box of choclates and it had no effect on them except being in the dog box with their Mother!

Yes, dark chocolate and small dogs is the worst case scenario. I hope they will be fine.

My 9kg Dachshund ate a whole king size block of dark chocolate.

I just kept an eye on him for the next day or so and apart from looking really fat he was fine.

Any animal that will rapturously eat its own vomit is unlikely to be troubled by a box of chocolates.

No, Hitcher, 'tis true. Chocolate is toxic to dogs! The dark chocolate, which has more cocoa, is the most dangerous. Nothing to do with anthropomorphism (for once)

Apparently, using chocolate was employed by them as wanted to "stop" (nobble) greyhounds in races. Right waste of chocolate, if you ask me

Hey BB, do you Canadians get castor oil... give them a dose and run around after them... squirt city.
Chocolate is bad... but oh sooo good. Just watch your puppies (the 4 legged ones) and if you notice any change in behavior get to the vet straight away.
My boxers have been into the chocolate santas on the xmas tree before with no effect.

Sometimes I think we worry too much and forget how resilient dogs are.
