    Good cop bad cop....arrrgggh!

I'm a criminal, no excuses, no defence. Just got pulled over by a cop and given a ticket for not having my licence on me. Guilty as charged. But apart from being irritated at the waste of money (due to my own choices and negligence), I got irritated at the super friendly apologetic officer. I think I'd rather get pulled over by one of the grumpy ones that I read about on KB. I mean, don't apologize, it's your job, just give me the ticket. If you really are sorry about it - let me off with a warning! Grrr, if I wanted fake niceness I'd go visit family.

    Rant over.

The poor guy probably hadn't seen another human being all day and just wanted a friendly chat.

He only gave you a ticket 'cos you wouldn't oblige.

I thought they could only ticket you for not carrying your license when they had you on something else as well?

Like, why did he pull you up to begin with? Doesn't he have to have some reason to stop you, before he can ask to see your license?

"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
    "Wow, Great advise there DB."

Calling all bush lawyers, calling all bush lawyers.

In short - (unsurprisingly) you are wrong. They have the rights to pull over any car / bike and driver / rider.

Except Willie Apiata. He has the right to pull over any police car or bike.

It may of been hard for him, theres still plenty of good coppers out there, their hands are increasingly bound by no fault of their own

A 'Licence Check' is a reason for them to pull you up apparently. I've had it a couple of times now.

    Lucy-
Its a bit bullshit to get ticketed just for that for in IMHO, we're not living under military coup.
your no criminal with anything to feel guilty about.

Did you ask if you can just file the ticket with your IR3 tax return on the 7th July?

    Oh calm down Lucy.
Stop being a silly little bint and leave the poor sod to do his job in whatever way he see fit.
I mean who lit your string.

That's not so nice is it?
Are you sure you want bad cops now? Who says he could have let you off now days? If you look he may not have given you the full fine.

I didn't expect to be let off, he said they were having a blitz. At the bank when I paid up the ladies said I was one of many in today. Sounds as though I might have got the smallest fine of the day though, people were getting fined for no seatbelts, expired warrants etc. I had no idea I was living in such a lawless land. I didn't say I wanted a BAD cop, there is a difference between obsequious and efficient.

I think we are going to be seeing more of this type of policing. Revenues are down, the money has to come from somewhere.

Oh, and to DB, there was a simple law passed heaven only knows how long ago that gives plod the right to randomly stop you. We all know the rules, Lucy got pinged. Bugger for her, though I am certain most would have got a warning or a comlpliance at least. This a blitz, as she says fair cop.
