John Cleese said we had the most boring city he'd ever been to. We named our landfill after him "Mt Cleese".

Shakespeare, W. Was apparently outrageously funny in those days too.

    Hey nonny nonny!

Lenny Henry (It's Lenny Bruce but I typed Henry first as a slip - and that's much funnier) is often cited as the father of 'modern' comedy. But that seems to be mainly because he swore on stage first.

Carlin was wonderful. Also, Bill Hicks wasn't given enough time on this planet IMHO.
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

You paid $140 to see a comedian. The jokes on you.

I voted for Carlin, but the answer is Lenny Bruce. Also the list is missing Richard Pryor.

Is this the dude of the Bill & Ted movies? If it is why didn't he have some lines like that in the movie?

Brilliant as he is, my reason for not choosing Cleese was that he was an Ensemble performer. Some of his light was reflected or contrasted by those around him.

Billy is hard to overlook, but I first heard 7 words in the early 70's and have been able to recite it since.
