FXR starter motor removal

Was going to leave this for a while, but got a cable kit to make up a new throttle cable going to my new throttle grip (save the button-happy stock one), and after checking it fits into the carb alright I drop one of the bloody end nipples down into the crack under the starter motor. For the life of me I can't get it out, and that's gonna keep happening, so that starter's gotta go.

So I undid the 2 bolts by the kick start, couldn't get it out, then tried to undo the side casing thinking I might have to do something in there, couldn't get the casing to budge, undid the allen key cap and saw crankshaft and thought, I'll stop about here and get some help. Had a look at the FX125 parts manual someone had up at fxr150.co.nz, nothin', and couldn't find any more info on it there.

So finally the question, what exactly do I need to do to get the bastard nipple thief starter motor out of there? And what size frost plug do I need once I get it out?

Should just be the two bolts at the back of the motor, the motor is quite tight into the case with an O ring as a seal so might need a bit of wiggling to get it out. You'll probably want to tear the associated gears out as well, Have heard stories of nasty rattles from people who have left them in.

Cheers Henk, the thiefs foul schemes have been foiled and the nipples returned to their rightful owners.

It was well tight, took a couple of goes. And I couldn't feel any floating gears in there that would cause rattling, everything pretty solidly meshed, keen to get a frost plug to cover it asap though, could easily collect all manner of nasty in there.

I haven't got round to organising this yet but it might be an idea to vent the hole instead of plugging it. Reduce pumping losses ....

Seeing as you have got the starter motor out you may as well take the side cover off and remove the starter gears including the sprag clutch screwed to the back of the flywheel. this is a significant hunk of metal that now has no purpose other than making your engine spin up slower

Yeah I tried to do that in my initial attempts to get teh starter out, couldn't get the side plate to budge. I'm not too worried just yet though, just wanna get it going reliably first, then I'll look at the more major fixes.
