Need help inporting a parcel from England

I am trying to get a parcel of car parts ( new panels for a '68 Mk I Escort ) from Lancashire in England, to Auckland. The box is 1575mm x 890mm x 407mm, and weighs 15kg.

I have called all the usual courier companies ( DHL, UPS, NZ Couriers, TNT, FedEx etc ), with no luck. They all say I need to have an account with them, but won't let me open an account because it is a one-time import. DHL quoted me $3000!!! That's 6 times what the parts are worth, so I politely declined their services.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get the parcel here? I'm not in a super hurry, so if it takes 2 months by sea no problems.

Have DHL quoted air or sea freight?
that seems a bit much.
get whom ever you are getting the parts from to get a price to send normal post.

Get yourself an importer code from Customs... cost me about 200 bucks or so a couple of years ago (DHL tried to screw me over)... Plan on paying GST and then just get yer goods sent via Royal Mail... If customs stop the package you'll end up paying the GST...

The charged you for an importer code?? Someone did rip you off.

Check the yellow pages for a freight forwarder. It should cost buggar all via seafreight.

That was Customs that charged me for the code (DHL charged admin fees)... I can't remember the freight forwarder my sister used... again jumped through hoops and ended up getting stung 60 bucks for MAF inspection (because the box said shoes on it)... We've shipped a couple of things via sea and it took about 4 months to arrive... Never really had a smooth experience yet... and we've shipped a few things...

Other than that, you could try going on to one of the immigration/emigration web sites and asking someone if they'll ship your parts in their container...

I have sent a similar size and weight from the Uk to New Zealand. I used a crown called mailboxes and it cost around 55GBPOUNDS.

So far as I can remeber 15Kg is the critical weight limit. The sender could alwats send it via Royal Mail for a lot less.

Yip your being Ripped big time I had a parcel off bike parts sent over Xmas/new years just gone

81 GBpounds it cost me for air frieght,
$60nz for insurance
$30nz for import duties

That was done through the postal system and at the busiest time of the year

The joint I am getting the gear from origianlly quoted me 623 GB Pounds to send it, and said I was free to organise my own shipping.

Dogsnbones, was that our postal system or their's? How did you get it organised? No one here wants to know about it = can't be bothered / too hard.

Begging your pardon Sire... i've just been informed by the MUCH better half that the 200 bucks was indeed GST and the rest was DHL... not Customs fees... sorry for misleading the court me luds and bush lawyer...

I may be a bush lawyer, but I'm an actual Customs Broker. So I'm pretty well qualified on this subject.

MGST - go to the Yellow Pages - pick a Freight Forwarder. Ring said Freight Forwarder with address of your seller and ask for an Ex Works quote (might as well ask for sea and airfreight) from that address.

It's over half a cube, so Customs will almost certainly have a poke around if it goes through the post centre out at Mangere.
