Thumbs down Insurance and CC rating

No different to the ACC ? Are they just stupid, I thought it was HP ... we are now paying 3 times the amount for a slower bike with a higher CC rating... go figure... more likely to (oh we have already) crashed the 400 than the 650... doh.

Who are these people in charge... curious?

Yep I can vouch for that. Back in the day I did a lap of the main quad at Marian Collage (girls Catholic school) to see my Mrs at the time during lunch time. When I saw the penguin waddling over it was time to bail, down the drive, on the rear wheel of my MC16 NSR250.
And they also smell really good. 2 strokes, not the Catholic girls.

Ok, Catholic girls smell nice too.

Just got my insurance swapped today, now paying less with a zx9r than I was with the vfr400. Insured it for $500 less though but still.

Well we both well over 25.. the dude said its cause its a 650, but the 400 can go quicker, or seems to be more comfy at speed, the difference tween sports and cruisers.... honestly someone has not done their homework in insurance on bikes.

Vote with your dollars, and take them somewhere else!

Usually insurance companies are on the money. They simply look at the claims they have had, look for a pattern, and charge accordingly. They want to make the maximum profit they can. They usually spend a lot of time analysing the data. So it makes me wonder what has shown up in their data to make this change.

Insurance companies also want a nicely balanced "book" of risk. Sometimes if they take on too much business in one area they change the pricing to attract a different kind of business to balance the risk again. Perhaps this is the case here.

ACC has a different motive. They just want to re-coup cost.

My 2008 Boulevard M50 is valued at $8,000 which is the price I paid for it last week. I've just got off the phone with the insurance companies, and moved from State ($720, $1000 excess) to Kiwibike ($285, $250 excess). Protecta (which underwrites Kiwibike on my Kiwibike policy) quoted me $322. I suspect State calculated their premium based on CC ratings as when I called and request for a quote they punched in the data into their computers, came up with the price, and then the lady over the phone made several comments about how "powerful" the bike is because it's a 800cc and therefore high risk etc, and also said that the cover will only be for me and no one else.

My previous bikes were insured with Vero (through Golightly). It cost me the same (~$576) to insure my Honda Hornet 250cc as well as my Vespa LXV 50cc (both valued at $5,000).
