Basically what he is saying is that he is confident that he can achieve anything he puts his mind to. Which is true of any successful person - if they had self doubt, they wouldnt achieve anything would they.

Rossi is exactly the same, and to be honest, so as any club racer in this channel - if they weren't, they wouldnt be lining up on the grid to compete against everyone else now would they. I would expect everyone one else in MotoGP to be thinking the same thing - after all, they are trying to beat him every other week aint they - you wouldnt be doing that if you didnt think you could.

The problem is, there are many people that cant cope with self confident people - perhaps as I said before, they have too much self doubt in their own lives to be able to understand the view of someone who has none.

Also if you read the article correctly you can see the author is trying to twist words. He is saying "he'd have beaten" Rossi, where carl is actually saying "then I would beat him". One is past tense the other is future tense. Put that down to the auther being a complete tit. Heck, misquoting someone in the same paragraph is a pretty silly mistake.
Have to disagree with you there fella. At least a dozen of the current MotoGP field will turn up just for the competition and the cheque at the end of the meeting. They know they have a snowballs chance in hell of beating Rossi and it's as simple as that.

And myself as a former club racer also used to know that I would never have a chance of beating the top riders in my class in Aussie, but I was there to compete with the blokes around me at the back of the field and that was great fun as we fought our own little wars within the pack.

Past tense future tense? I don't know that Fogarty is that smart a user of the English language not to have used two different tenses in the same sentence, so there is no point in putting shit on the scribe.

I'm pretty sure we've covered this before. Fogarty is right what he's saying, that he believes that with the right team and bike he would have been able to beat Rossi. I'm sure Doohan, Rainey, Schwantz even Biaggi now, Gibernau, Edwards, Hayden, Barros etc all believe they can beat Rossi, whether they can or not is another matter but I'm sure they believe they can Fogarty at his best was pretty bloody good, don't forget wasnt like he was the only Ducati out there. You seen some of his Isle of Man rides? The one where he smashed the lap record on a dodgy old OW01, farkin' amazing. The man was a farkin' legend on a bike, and he speaks his own mind, good on him, and the press love, cos they know his quotes will still sell the mags and papers and get tounges talking.
Shame he never got a proper crack at 500's, the few rides he had were pretty impressive. He filled in for Chilis team one year and they wouldnt even move the footpegs or seat position for him!

Foggy may well have beaten him, but I doubt he has anywhere near in the kind of shape, personal and race fitness considered, to beat Rossi today, even if he did have access to the same bike/funds/team etc.

But in any competition psychology and self belief pay a significant part in winning, and on that note, and with Foggy's self-confidence, he's probably won already.

But then again it's a fact that I would also beat Rossi on my BiffBird. Makes no difference that I won't ever have a chance to prove it. Me ego will ensure that I triumph and show that curly haired lanky string of crap how to really ride. Don't believe me? Prove otherwise.

i'm not sure what the quote demonstrates more: Fogarty's confidence in his abilities or his lack of confidence in his past abilities!!
He may be a great rider, but he's definitely trying to big note himself there. I wonder if someone will donate two identical bikes for him and Rossi to ride a track somewhere to see if he'll put his money where his mouth is?

True, but he's still a dick. I got really tired of him whingeing and bleating about how his tyres were no good, and his team had screwed the bike up, and someone had cut him off, blah blah blah. ANd that was when he podiumed!
The thing that got me most was that he said he didn't actually like racing bikes, just winning (which is why he whined when he came "only" second or "only" third.) Complete contrast to Rossi, who while he loves to win, loves a challenge even more (regardless of the outcome) and LOVES racing bikes.
    ... and that's what I think.

Here's some classic piss-take of Fogarty, from MotoGP News:

"What we have with MotoGP is a joke. Just not a funny one…unlike my jokes that are always funny - look out for my latest book 'King Frog's legendary jokes' for further details.
Sometimes people say to me "Oh King Frog. You are a legend. Given the opportunity where would you rank in the current MotoGP riders?" Well I'll tell you. I always rated myself as being quite a bit better than Rossi - it stands to reason with my high corner speed style. Furthermore Rossi has always looked at my aquatic achievements in awe and rated me as his idol. Now if you look where Rossi has finished in GP's over the past few years then obviously I'd be a bit higher than that. Which, by my legendary calculations, would mean I'd easily be MotoGP's best rider if only I'd had the opportunity.

Here's my top five losers at China

    MotoGP
GP's have always been the poor relation to the superior rich uncle that is World Superbikes…especially in 90's. But this weekend's race in China was a showing that GP's are nothing more than international club events designed for the TV viewing public who don't really understand motorcycle racing or the skill needed to have high corner-speed like me. Jacque would never have finished second in a WSB race, not even if he was on a Petronas. He's definitely no legendary King Frog! Hahah! See what I did there? How I used 'Frog' because he's French? I better write that one down. I told you I was funny didn't I? It even says so on my website.

    Sete Gibernau
Here's another example of the state of MotoGP. I didn't win countless World LillyPad championships by sulking about my back tyre and shaking my head. Gibernau should have simply adjusted his style to suit and then cranked up his corner speed that way he'd have powered to victory. I was always noted as a rider who just got on with the winning aspects of racing. Gibernau should take a leaf out of my book…any of them.

    Max Biaggi
I've never really rated this guy - he wouldn't cut the mustard in 'Supers. What I don't really understand is all his moaning. Moaning gets you nowhere. That's why I was always noted in the paddock as not being a moaner. If something was wrong with the bike I'd get my spanners out and fix it myself. I was always a brilliant mechanic and could have been the best mechanic in the world given the opportunity. My latest book 'Froggy's bikes' explains how I engineered and designed all my winning bikes - from the colour scheme to 250cc overbore. All my own work.

    Kenny Roberts
Now the non-Superbike fans amongst you probably thought that Kenny Roberts Junior had a mechanical failure that cost him the race. Let me assure you it wasn't. No, he pulled over because he lost his nerve. I remember his dad having the same problem and retiring from racing when I came onto the scene. It runs in the Roberts bloodline I'm afraid. Never rated any of them.

    Nicky Hayden
Never really rated Americans - and this guy is no exception. Water in his electronics? Adjust your style to suit I'd say."

I was going to agree with Two Seven for a bit there but if the comments given above are true, then what a tosser. I wish him and rossi did have a race together and have his pride and over confidence, shatter.

You do realise that was a MotoGP News pisstake? Those aren't actual Fogarty quotes?
    F'rinstance:

Now in fact, Fogarty is known as being king of the moaners.

It's a pity I don't have access to the last "King Frog" article, where "Frogarty" rubbishes Rossi and says how much better he is.
