    No more avgas/100 octane? Really?

I was told today that 100 octane race fuel/ avgas will no longer be available for recreational use. supposedly it wont be available for racers to use. Is this correct? Has anyone else heard of this?

Apparently it's been banned from car racing because they didnt want people toteing 200 litre drums around on the back of utes.
Nothing wrong with BP 98 though.

My source is a guy who has freinds that are into classic car racing in a BIG way. I don't remember the specifics particularly well, but in a nut shell the rumour is that it will soon become illegal to sell avgas for recreational use.

i'm not for a moment suggesting that this is definite, the purpose of the thread is to see if anyone else has heard a similar story. I've been doing a bit of snooping around, (this thread is already on Google!), I have a feeling that the REAL story may be that the various car racing series could be having to go to pump fuel due to rule changes from MSNZ. If thats the real story, then its just a case of misinterpreted information.

Elf unleaded race fuel for the 125's more like $7.50 a litre...No worries just get to know someone at an airfield or a pilot! Planes will always use it and MNZ is not bannning it so find a friend and suck up!

    Define recreational use....
If a man spends an hour or so doing pointless laps of the sky in a piper tomohawk or similar, I would calll that recreational use.
From what i can tell, Its just the classic car guys are not going to use it anymore. This thread is the only place I have heard it sujested that it will no longer be on sale to Joe Public.
There is no dark side of the moon, really, as a matter of fact. Its all dark...

Kartsport banned all avgas from go kart racing this year. The guys with the highly tuned 250cc karts have had to get the cylinders/heads machined to run 98 and they are blowing up all over the place. I too heard that you will need a fuel card setup for avgas in order to get it from the aeroclub pumps.
