Oh, I think you and I both know we're not talking about "societal niceties" here. And trust me, I'm the first one to thank a man for opening a door for me or allowing me to go through first. Even my 18 year old son opens the car door for his girlfriend. This is entirely a different kettle of fish here.

Umm, fish....ooops, must dash off to make the dinner! (kidding - my night off from the kitchen tonight yay!!!)

Garages of any kind have been the domain of the male for a millenia.... or more. Just like the kitchen has been the domain of the female. I would'nt walk into the kitchen during a family get together and ask my nana and all my aunties of they wanted a hand with anything!!!! I would probably get a slap !

i'll never use vtnz. failed a wof for my car on both front wheel bearings. put it on a jack at home, no wheel bearing play at all. stupid b'stard thought the play from the top of the suspension when it wasn't loaded was bearings!!

took it to local mech on monday morning, got a wof sweet as

when went back to vtnz they wouldnt believe me, told me i must have replaced the bearings!

the moral of the story, find a nice little owner/operator mechanic in your area and i g'tee you he(or she ) will look after you. they understand the value of repeat business

in all seriousness princess...Im sure it is just the fact they are scared of woman drivers that come in in case they run them over...men may not always be better drivers but they are generally more confident...so driving over the two ramps is a doddle, whereas they probably see woman drivers hesitate....and yes you are no doubt more then capable of doing it...but from their point of view you are just another woman.....

On the other side of the coin I know of several women who have passed warrants with a light bulb out and told to get it fixed soon ........ wouldn't happen to a bloke (well unless he had spectacular boobs!).

I see where you are coming from though. You should have pointed out that a woman ran the country for 9 years ...... hmmm maybe don't mention that bit!

Avoid VTNZ, they reject cars to keep themselves busy and so they can feel important (self fulfilling industry). I've had similar issues with bearings, seatbelts, various lights etc

When I was building a trailer I went down to speak to an inspector about where exactly to place the side marker lights as what the regs say and what they display (in diagrams) is different. He had absolutely no idea. So I put them where they looked best and guess what, it passed.

One of the inspectors actually took me aside after the initial inspection and asked me questions about the trailer as he liked some of the features and wanted to do the same to his!

But as a rule I avoid VTNZ, overpriced, underworked, pedantic, etc etc etc

I go to the local AA. I know there's a lot of flack about them and ACC, but for a warrant, one of the best in town, reasonably priced, half price warrant with a service, never picked up something that wasn't there (not like local VTNZ wankers).

I have had issues with VTNZ too, my 18yo son took his car in and got failed on about 20 things.....came home i fixed most of them but did nothing about a few like exhaust noise...lowered shocks etc......I then took it back for the recheck and it passed everything...with the guy doing the re check wondering why some of the things were even failed in the first place....good for me but not the sort of consistant service you should get.

They failed my NZ new 1992 Kawasaki for having headlight glass for a LHD market.
