I did get a response from the station manager today. He acknowledged that his staff are not meant to allow anyone to drive into the area and he would speak to them about it.
If they get into trouble over it (I'm sure it'll only be a talk, I wouldn't expect anything drastic from it) then so be it for being lax on their work place regulations.

Overall I am happy that something which is in place to effectively keep a work area safe might be acted upon. ( Regardless of whether or not the resident bush lawyers here think it's relevant or important [see seated refuelling debate]).

Be a damn shame if the boss was a girl! aye.
As for the hypo's on KB well thats another stereotype, that is hard to argue.
Not saying take anyones rights away, saying exactly what PB did in her first post here, One rule for all, or NOTHING,. Fair enough isn't it? As they are the ones with the signs saying, only staff to drive in the inspection area.
Dont see how the gender of the boss enters into it.

One rule for all is what is meant to happen, I just think to that getting upset about something and posting it on KB is completely un productive. I've done it too, so I fit the KB stereo type.

Here's the thing about stereo types though, they are what they are for a reason. Like it or not. Men are more capable drivers, generally. We have more accidents though cos men are also more egotistical. There are more Maori on the unemployment benefit than Pakeha. The list goes on, with statistics that are not politically correct, but are still true.

Occurs to me that some guys would take not being let to drive in as an implication they aren't up to it..
VTNZ staff should hug them and lead them by the hand to the VTNZ counselling dept.

On a related note, I heard Teresa Gattung on the radio plugging her new book.

What I can't get over is the hypocrisy of some wimmin - one minute she's crapping on about how there is still sexism in the workplace and it's a hard row to hoe if yer a Doris, the next she's plugging her new book on the basis of her gender.

Then it was my turn. I was asked to get out of my car; i said nah, it's ok i'll do it. Oh dear. That was the wrong thing to say. I was told most definitely to get out of my car for him (tester) to drive in.

Hmmmm. Went inside and asked if it was their policy not to let women drive their vehicles in over the pit and was told - no, it's just that most women don't like to do it and let the male staff do it. Ok, off i go and ask the tester (after checking that my car had passed it's warrant of course) why i couldn't drive my car in despite at least 3 men having done it while i was there watching. He kept saying "no public allowed in there" over and over, even when i said "but male customers are doing it all the time".

Now, there is a sign saying no access to members of the public in the area; i don't have an issue with that - all good for osh and all that i assume. But (and it's a huge butt, i mean but) why are men allowed to break that rule. I mean to say the testers were actively waving the male drivers into the area whereas i was told in no uncertain terms to get out of my car!!!

I've emailed a letter to the station manager asking why there is this discrepancy (veiled "discrimination") against women drivers. If the rule is there, it's there for all motorists surely. I wait with bated breath as to what his response will be.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded
