Pff, no one here is debating the undeniable achievements of Weta and sure we should recognise it - just not with a moronic, unoriginal, and fugly sign! If anything, such a sign promotes mediocrity and a lack of creativity which is exactly the opposite of what it is supposed to be in recognition of.

Can they not think of anything better?

As a non Wellingtonian I hope you put the sign up. It will make me laugh at you like I did with the overblown LOR characters at the airport a few years ago. It's all a bit OTT for one company isn't it, no matter how good they are ? Will make you look really daft when they decide they need to move out of town.

I totally get that. By why not put a sculpture of a giant weta on the hillside then? Something with a LITTLE bit of taste at least. I also want to celebrate the creative ingenuity of New Zealanders, but I fail to see how poorly replicating that lame sign achieves that.
