    A decent real estate agent

Someone buy that man a beer or 2.

A real estate agent who saved four people after a head-on two car crash north of Auckland on Friday has been hailed as a hero.

Real estate agent Rob Kuypers was driving his son home from school when he arrived at the crash scene on East Coast Rd at Redvale, 30km northwest of downtown Auckland, the Herald on Sunday reported.

Four-year-old Adam Pretorius of Milford was killed in the crash while his two sisters, aged six and nine, their grandmother, and the 17-year-old female driver of the other car all remained in hospital.

The victims' injuries ranged from critical to moderate.

The car was "pretty well ablaze" by the time Mr Kuypers pulled the driver and oldest child from the front seats, with a number of motorists watching but not wanting to go near the burning vehicle.

He said Adam was already dead, but pulled him and another child from the car before helping the other car's teen driver.

"I thought, 'It's not going to blow before it gets to the tank'. The kids...you just think 'stuff it, we're gonna get them out of there'..."It doesn't matter what happens. They're kids - I'm 50 years old. They've got their whole lives to go. I'll take the risk".

Police said the car carrying the children crossed the centre line and hit the teen's car.

I like to think I would do the same. I find it amazing that other people just stood there and watched.

Pretty amazing, but what does the fact that he's a real estate agent have to do with anything? He's a human before he's anything else. All the same, bloody great to see some altruistic behaviour happening out there. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Most of them are like Lawyers.
Almost anything to be bent out of sight for a quick buck.
Some people just can't seem to comprehend that they do not have the right to be unoffended in their lives.

Pfft. The cynic in me says he only "saved" them so he could sell them something.

Well I certainly don't have a problem with that... and definitely that man deserves the bravery award. He most certainly is human first.. then an agent! Food for thought: Real Estate Agents are no different to any of us... there are good & bad in every profession. In saying that my mum works her arse off... 7 days a week.

    Great story Ronin
Sadness with the loss of the little one. How tragic to have lost all of the others though, if not for the selfless act of the rescuer.
I'd like to think if anyones precious one was in such danger, that they too would get to thank their hero in-person.

I think what he did was pretty wonderful, and very dissappointing that no others did what he did. Doesn't matter what he does for a profession, what he did was save lives - good on 'em.

Real estate agents generally deserve the appalling reputation they have been awarded by the general public. With some few exceptions they are conniving, manipulative, devious, disengenuous, greedy and excessively overpaid for what they actually do.

Over recent years they have made their lives even easier by insisting that all prospective buyers are cash buyers and that properties are sold through "auctions" or "tenders" that require little or no work on an agent's part, unless standing around in open homes collecting names counts. Clients are expected to pay for all "marketing" costs, when what is largely being marketed is the agent's retail brand. They work for neither the buyer nor the seller. They work in their own best interests. Understand that reality and the torment of buying or selling property becomes less traumatic. They manipulate markets, driving the costs of affordable housing beyond the reach of hard-working young New Zealanders.

If none of that were true, then the Government wouldn't have recently removed the self-regulatory framework that agents have used to their advantage for years and replaced it with an independent authority with real teeth.

At least my lack of "class" knows how to use apostrophes.

The question is... if Hitcher came across a Real Estate Agent in a burning car would he help?

Seriously good on the guy, not sure if your occupation means any thing really in times of need. Its like when a women is found raped and murdered and its reported that she is a Prostitute does it REALLY matter?
