    eek Pardon me?

Weirdest thing happened yesterday. I am still trying to get my head around the medical advice I was given.

I have high blood pressure, have spent the best part of 12 months trying to get it under control. It is a family thing so not unexpected. I used to smoke. Every time I went for a BP check the nurse/doctor would lecture me about stopping smoking. So I did. Piece of wees really, completely blew me away how easy it was to stop. Sadly my blood pressure continues to be an issue despite my best efforts to date.

Had a bit of a HIGH BP at the start of the week and was started on yet another drug, this time on top of what I already take, to drag it back down. Went for the 2 day after starting new drug regime check and it has dropped a bit. I complained to the nurse. I said, "I took your advice, I stopped smoking and am out pounding the pavements almost every night getting fit and my blood pressure continues to rise. I feel ripped off!"

Her advice to me. I should start chewing nicotene gum It lowers the blood pressure apparently. No shit Sherlock, I did try telling the zealot nurses when I went to get my BP checked, only now I have stopped do they acknowledge it. Apparently only the TAR in smokes is bad for you. I was sitting there gob smacked! I said I am not chewing nicotene gum, she said I could always use patches??????

    WTF!

I am a nicotene addict that has managed very sucessfully to kick the habit and here is a friggen health professional suggesting I should start the habit up again via a different method???

    Anyone else experienced this weirdness?

Definitely a strange one! I, too, suffer high BP anf have had to take two meds to bring it down, one a phosphate based pill and it is now down where it should be, but it took about four years to get it under control.

We are now going to get several posters telling us how to do it without drugs and all the reasons we have high BP and how dangerous the drugs are and how it's in our mind's ability to control, etc. etc. etc.

Of course it's not that simple. Suffice to say, I do a huge amount of medical research for many issues and I know very well that were I not taking the medications I am now taking I could have dropped dead years ago. Which would have been a total bummer!

Only side effect I got from the previous med was itchiness so I was switched to the phosphate one and the itchiness went away. The body adapts to drugs and usually accomodates them after a short time.

I would get a second opinion from a GP. I know a very good one I trust with my life...

I'm too healthy to seek medical help for anything other than sudden blood-loss injuries ... usually resulting in a better relationship with the ladies in the ACC office, than my Doctor. I must visit his office to see if he's alive ... (oops ...I think I've got the wrong thread ...AGAIN ...)

It is the GP that I trust with my life's practise nurse that gave me that advice Ed, I cant wait for my next appointment with her to be fair. Yeah, high blood pressure is a bit of a bugger really, nothing I could have done to prevent it really, it is in the genes.

The drugs are interesting though, I have tried so many out it is not funny. I dont tolerate drugs well, I even managed to have a notifiable adverse reaction to one of the ones I have tried I dont much care, if I have to take the pills I have to take them, find ones that I can, that work, and away we go.

    4 years you say

Yeah, having Cushing's Syndrome doesn't help. Everyone can react differently to drugs and GP's usually, (at least good GP's do), give a bit smaller dose to try for a couple of weeks to see how you go and will change it if a bad reaction occurs.

I've been a drug manufacturer's dream for so many years it's a pleasure to only be on three different one's these days...

Just cut yourself to lower the pressure a bit...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Well, kicking the bucket early doesn't fit with my plans so I try to avoid that as much as possible...

Gosh, you are a happy soul. I actually follow your live today as if it is your last philosophy, nothing in that stops me from actively preventing my early death.

That must be so frustrating! I tried patches a while ago & they gave me startlingly lucid dreams. Found myself roaming round the house in the nud a few times. Beware!
