As mentioned, it's quite common to modify the stock Ducati Mufflers by removing the internals and putting in a straight through perforated pipe. From memory the 400 Duc's are good for about 50hp so you won't be gaining a whole lot other than some extra noise. The good news is that if you find a bigger Ducati motor from the Monster range you can transplant it into your frame as they all have common engine mount points. You'd wanna upgrading to twin discs up front if you go down that road, and if your rear wheel isn't already a 5inch then you'd want to be looking at that too. Of course it usually ends up being cheap enough to just upgrade to a bigger one anyway!

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Thanks R6 kid, yea the optionis always there for an engine upgrade. Fortunatly enough for some reason my bike already has the twin disc up front, bit of an overkill for a 400!! Its a good first bike for me to learn on, identical handling to a big ducati, but i wont be thrown off by the front wheel coming up when exiting a corner!

Good news, I modified my stock mufflers, and they sound pretty awesome really!! It would definately be described as a deep rumble. Im more than suprised at how the lil wee engine can sound like that! Took a baffle out of the back of the muffler and all it cost me was a drill bit. Many thanks to you all, you just saved me about $400

The first time I heard a 400cc Ducati with after market pipes I was surprised that it wasn't a 400cc or bigger. They certainly still have the rumble of the bigger motors!
