I think Hero is a bit generous. Willie Apiata is a Hero, this lady was more of an icon.

    Fearless lady all the same.

Both were just doing their jobs. But very brave of course!

She looks like that chick from Evanescence.

Now that you mention it she does!

Yeah they were just doing their jobs, but there is a difference between saving a mate, and video taping war.

As for the dictionary definition above, meh, to me, a hero is a selfless person who puts themselves out to help another, not someone fulfilling self interest, but each to their own......

Willie Apiata has shown he is brave under fire and does what it takes to look after his mates regardless of the risk to himself ...he would say, like many before him, he was just doing what anyone else would.... Heroic..........under the circumstances, quite probably.

Margaret Moth ....... sticking your neck out to be good at your job...foolhardiness, perhaps, in some eyes. They both seem to come under section 4...in different ways. (4. having or involving recourse to boldness, daring, or extreme measures: Heroic measures were taken to save his life.), so has probably shown equally "heroic" qualities in regard to what she did.
Whatever, she certainly lived life to the full .........
