I had a similar thing happen when a woman hit my car (with her 4WD) on the Harbour Bridge
she admitted fault at the scence to me and police.
had my car fixed and was required to pay excess as she had decided to deny fault.
she was charged with careless driving and eventually pleaded guilty

I eventually got the excess back after they admitted fault

Dont have an issue with it as we are all told not to admit fault by our insurance companies (also she was hot)
I had my car damaged in a car park, someone had left the rego of the car that had damaged it and left.I got the owner details from the NZTA.and supplied it to my insurance via my insurance broker, who assured me that was all I needed to do.
Car was repaired,no excess was demanded.

Genie was not in the vicinity of the car...she was over at the playground playing with her children.
The lovely gentleman waited until we returned to the car to apoligise and give me his details.

Great when it works out that way Pixie, but it's not always like that. Your particular case is probably more to do with the fact you had a broker and good policy wording.

Well, there is actually a connection. If you park a certain appendage in a certain orifice without protection (and you aren't wanting children) you have what is essentially a 'parking accident'.

Better than being 'rear-ended' I'd say.
