Agree entirely. I'm not a huge fan of the genre, though I am a fan of George Romero (DAWN OF THE DEAD is one of my favourites of all time, and every time I go to a shopping mall I think of that film).

There are some nit-picky things you could raise (talk about a lot of bad decisions) but the thing was so well done. I particularly enjoyed episodes 4 and 6.

I hope they make a second series too, I thought they left it open-ended enough to do so.
Second series is in pre production with an air date (unfortunately) of next October.

I just finished watching the final episodes of The Tudors too, fantastic! We all know how it ends and what happens to all his wives, but still damn entertaining!

    K19: The widowmaker

A quite powerful, tense dramatic thriller but not as deep as you think it would go.
If you are a Liam Neeson fan (like me), you will enjoy it quite very much.

    7.5/10

Havn't seen Sean Connery's October yet. But will definitely check it out to compare (now on my list of "to watch"). However I prefer K19 over U-571 in comparison (different timeline however).

Thanks for letting me know. Will definitely check it out.

Plus, U-571 sucked arse. It was cheesy as, and completely historically inaccurate (Brits actually got the Enigma machine, and the Bletchley Park boffins broke the code). One of those situations where the actual story is far more interesting than the film.

    Taken (2008)

    Yes, another Liam Neeson film.

Quite powerful, merciless and savage action packed thriller. No dramatic or deep heart touching stuff. This is simple, pure "what-you-see-what-you-get" savage blunt force trauma. But be warned, the movie ends like BOOM.

I'm very suprised how Liam Neeson has gone from cognac-drinking-gentleman (Shindler's List) to Bourne-Identity-isque action hero. Considering his age, he executed very well.

Much impressed. 8.0/10 but I'll give extra 0.5 for Liam Neeson.

    8.5/10

Yeah i'd give it 8/10, it looked like it might be ok seeing the trailer but the movie turned out better than expected which was pleasant for a change.

Yes, exactly. He doesn't muck around. He just shoots (Jean-Claude's wife, two million security guards, and the fat Arab) absence of hesitation. Reminded me of Leon - The Professional.
The movie felt like drinking a glass of nice ice cold coke.

Edit: Hold on a second... Leon - The Professional and Taken was BOTH directed by Luc Besson. No fucking wonder it was decent.

Re-Edit: Sorry, Taken was produced by Luc Besson, not directed.
