The Chemical Brothers - Dont Think

It's just footage from a concert, but if you're a fan of ooonst ooonst raving, or the chemical brothers specifically, or even just lot's of flashy lights, psychedelia, strobes and visuals, then turn off the lights, spark up the smoke machine, and let the brothers work it out.

10/10 for me. If you don't fit into the above then you'll probably rate it as a 2 or 3.

I believe it played at the last film festival. Would have been awesome on big screen.

    Savages

Rating: aaarrrgghhh i can't make up my mind. I enjoyed it but was in the mood for sitting back, switching off and enjoying a film. The person I saw it with complained bout the characters and actors, some corny lines and other bits and pieces. She especially didn't like the lead actress but that might just have been a bitchiness thing (fuck, hope she doesn't read this).

Anyhoo, it's a new Oliver Stone movie about a Mexican drug cartel trying to take over some californian pot growers. Violent - tick. Action - tick. Entertainment - tick. Great acting - tick. Shite acting - tick. Good story - tick. Holes - tick. Lazy writing/directing - tick.

Bottom line I think is that if you can sit back and just enjoy it then it's worth a watch. If you go in expecting to see Platoon or Natural Born Killers equivalents then you'll likely be disappointed. 7 for me, 5 for her.

Looper: Good movie. I would say great but I'm still wrapping my head around bits of it. Confusing as hell near the start and it was a relatively familiar theme, but it kicks into gear and the little touches that you saw 10 minutes or so ago suddenly make sense. It keeps you wondering what's coming next and unfortunately, bit harsh maybe, but unfortunately the ending kinda fizzles for me... still though, a good movie. 7.5-8/10 as there were tits involved.

At first the wife wondered what the fk i put on - then 30 mins on it was great. What I got from the movie was his drive (Alain Prost) to do better - that is, the very person or thing that causes sleepless nights, could be the very person that drives you to do better.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Not a bad watch really.

Can't see any reference to Dredd3D here, so I'll just say IT'S AWESOME! (speaking from the POV of a 46 year old 2000AD fan.)

Not something to take the young fella to, very gritty and violent. Lotsa slo-mo effects of people being shot or dropped off 200 story buildings. Can't wait for more of the series.

Might have to add it to the collection. Saw them live at Glastonbury, kidney crushing bass & lazers in the mist. Epic.
Same vein, different genre, White Stripes under Blackpool lights. Best concert I was never at. Jolene live is startling.

Oh, Judge Dredd, 2000AD comic? We need a Rogue Trooper movie.

Dredd was fantastic. No story just Dredd being badass for an hour or so.

Shame nobody in America went and saw it. Only taken $31 million from a movie budget of over $40 million meaning the chances of a sequel are very slim at the moment.

Excellent movie, although a bit derivative if you've ever seen the AMAZING Indonesian flick (welsh director Gareth Evans though) called The Raid. Now THAT is a bloodbath and frickin' fantastic martial arts etc. Apparently The Raid is already set for a Hollyweird remake, and they'll probably fuck it up casting some douche that can't fight for shit so they will need to use fast cutaways to simulate the actual biffo.

I am going to see DREDD tonight.

We rented JOHN CARTER (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0401729/). Didnt go and see it at the movies because it got bad reviews and to be honest the Disney branding put me off. Disney can kiss my arse.

Anyway talking to the video store guy yesterday (www.aliceinvideoland.co.nz) and he recommended it. And I'm all like "Really dude?" and he's totally like "Ya rly!".

Gave it a spin (DVD not Blu Ray) and it is EXCELLENT. Seriously 8.5/10. The first 20 mins is a bit lame (but not too bad) but once it gets going it is FABULOUS. The locations and sets are great, action setpieces and Martian tech are brilliantly realised, the plotting is good and tight, the fight scenes are epic (at least as good as the LOTR ones which is pretty much the benchmark for digital battlescenes). The cast are very good too, Mad props to Samantha Morton as Deja Thoris, and Dominic West hamming it up as the bad guy. Our hero is a bit of a tabula rasa but looks good in a loin cloth and swinging a sword about. Some of the dialogue and love scenes are a bit clunky, but no worse than any of Speilberg/Lucas films.

The source material archive is huge, but because this one did so badly, it won't get a sequel.

Seriously get it. By the way, remember the source material was written between 1912 and 1940. Without these stories there is no Superman, no Star Wars, pretty much no fantasy/sci fi genre.

If you liked Star Wars, you'll like this: trust me. It should have been bigger than Star Wars.

Nemesis the Warlock would be really fucking disturbing....

We saw the White Stripes touring Seven Nation Army at Welly Town Hall. Epic.
