I really enjoyed this. Beautifully shot, awesome performances and kept me guessing and scratching my head. Kind of District 9'ish.

    Nolan country. The Anzac muster.
About the Nolan family from Southwestland and the cattle muster from the Arawatah valley to the salesyards at Whataroa.

The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared

Dark comedy - Very funny movie.
Think Forrest Gump but with more explosives

    Frozen

    A big bag of shit.

The kids got given the DVD for Christmas although they didn't appear to be that bothered and certainly not taken in with all the hype. Chip off the old block there thank god. Put it on but it was dire, the six year old walked off to play with a digger and the seven year old switched it off before halfway.

    1/10.

Would be 0/10 but the main bird was quite tasty.

Happily its a good movie which avoids the gungho American patriotism of the book. A good book but just read every second chapter.

This film is reasonably close to what really happened in the mountains of east Afghanistan. There is a scene where a Chinook is shot at which actually happened on a different mission but yes, it did happen. You can find snarky remarks on the internet about this being unrealistic but real people died in a real combat situation.

What I particularly appreciated were the tactical actions of the soldiers. Often military movies feature a lot of shouting and weapons on full automatic. Not here. The Red Wing guys whisper and move covertly. When they are in contact they fire single aimed shots instead of mindless blasts. When you are days away from your firebase every bullet has to count.

The firefight with the Taliban is very realistic and is the central action of the movie.

    Recommended but read the book.
Where can I find the book, better still wanna lone it to me?
Just watched it, very good portrayal...

Last night I watched - Cold in July - a good thriller, well shot and acted. Nice supporting appearance by Mr Miami Vice himself - Don Johnson.

Also watched 'Lucy' - had potential but never clicked for me - felt a bit rushed.

I know what you mean. Not the worst film I've ever seen, but couldn't really see the point.

Had notes of the Matrix in it...but basically an "ark" movie. A bit ponderous; I kept waiting for Chris Evans to go "flame on" and heat things up.

I got the book from the library.

Y'know, maybe this is one time when you don't need to read the book. I enjoy Special Forces books but this one was hard work. In various ways the film was better so stick with that.

If you get an opportunity, get UNDER THE SKIN. really rated it. Plus ScarJo.

OK, I paid my money and I took my chance:

    THE IMITATION GAME.

The Cumber should get an Oscar nom (at least) for this. Even Keira Knightley didnt annoy me as she often does. Mark Strong is excellent as always as is Charles Dance.

Because it is about cryptography, and code breaking, which are very difficult subjects indeed, and harder still to portray on screen (what, there's two hours of a dude staring at a pad and occasionally writing on it, or looking out the window and thinking? How will that play in Peoria or Porirua?)

Its not like that at all, and from what I can recall from the books I have read about this stuff (Simon Singhs "The Code Book" and in a fictionalised context Neal Stephensons "Cryptonomicon") they way they actually did it was handled very well.

I liked this a lot, I also think that they way they handle the way that Turing was vilified and driven to suicide for being gay was well done.... not the focus of the story but a not so subtle plot point.

    Highly recommended. 9/10
