bought the two disc special edition of this. Great movie though it was made in the '60's so it is s l o w and very expository for a modern audience. Lee Marvin, charles Bronson, Donald Sutherland, Ernest Borgnine, you can't ask for a better cast.

Loved it, one of the classic war movies.

I read too much about this and formed the opinion it would suck, so didnt bother seeing it on the big screen. Mate lent me the Blu Ray.

Its actually bloody good. Quentin tells a good story, its well paced, has the little quirks (yes, the foot fetish) we expect, the cast is pretty good. I like Bradley George, Eli Roth is great, and Christoph Waltz is excellent as a deranged Nazi.

    total escapism, well executed.

Its not Pulp Fiction (my favourite film) but nothing is.

    Cheers must watch that again.

Speaking of Bronson, I watched Once Upon A Time in The West again the other day. Absolute classic, easily one of my top 5 movies of all time, 10/10.

They had a restored directors cut 35mm print of Once Upon a Time in the West at last years film festival. Showed it on the giant screen at Hoyts with the good sound system. It was absolutely magic.

    great film....

I bought the Clint Eastwood boxset and I am going to start with his Westerns. I love Westerns and war movies...

I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.

Finally got to see Paul. I gotta say I enjoyed it. Crying funny in places, little touches of sci-fi's past dotted around, bit of slap-stick in places (part of the charm, for me), plenty of cheap giggles and a good enough script.

    8/10

    Attack on Leningrad (2009).
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0432314/

The WW2 German attack on Russia left the city of Leningrad surrounded and under artillery shelling for close to three years. The only supply lines were across the frozen lake Ladoga and other extremely erratic methods of supply. The population starved and approximately 1.5 million died that way.

The movie portrays a british newspaper reporter who is presumed killed and left in the city while her fellow reporters bugger off back to Moscow. Her survival is the essence of the movie.

I had forgotten how well the Russian movies do "bleak" and this dragged on for 110mins.
Hopefully some Americans will watch it and appreciate the "non Hollywood" point of view...

    Edit: Subtitled as well... yay.

Have you read Antony Beevor's book "STALINGRAD"? It is one of the best war history books I've ever read. He's also a very readable military historian. I have his book on the Spanish Civil War to read after I finished the book I'm reading

Watched 'Clash of the Titans' last night. Always good when a Greek Demi-god has an accent like Rolf Harris.

    2/5 (for the special effects.)

Have all the viable movie plots already been used?

No. Interestingly I have recently had a voucher from TBD... perhaps time to redeem?

I have read several books from soldier's points of view and visited Leningrad, Smolensk, Minsk and Moscow many years ago. The Russians have long memories of their battles.

About Zaitsev? Yes, a good movie.
Oddly enough, books on that era are far more appealing as they are not influenced by the hollywood bullshit.

Introduced my GF to that movie a few days ago thinking she would hate it but she was enthralled all the way through. She loved the re-mastered Lawrence of Arabia too.
