I was an active member of the NZPA for 12 years, action mostly. and the discipline needed is extreme, just to become holster qualified and to be able to draw a pistol takes a fair bit of effort and testing. As a range officer I often ran events like these hot, its the safest way, every one knows that the side arm is loaded no matter where on the range, holstered or on the line except in the saftey zone of course. Its an extreme sport and as such requires much to compete and to stay involved in. My advice to anyone who shoots, go to an open day at a local range its will give you a new appreciation.

And by extreme I mean being able to cast a bullet, to swage it and to load it all to get ones equipment to work well and fast on the day, its a hand eye and time disipline, I never knew anyone in our club nor anywhere else who mentioned the word combat or simulation of such. Its easy to look from the outside in and think somthing is strange. If you talk to the men and women at a range in NZ you find level headedness mostly. There are some valid points made in this thread. Anyway people go and give it a go, there are many classes of pistol event.
