To me, as an educated, experienced adult, I can see the dangers of glorifying such sports (by that I mean the first video), actually, now I think about it, I fail to see how any one can NOT see that as glorifying "urban combat"..... What other real life scenario does it play out?
You fail to understand the purpose of "sport". Sport doesn't have to be a test of a persons skill at some 'real life scenario'. It can be any skill that 2 or more people decide to see who is the better at regardless of how useful or relevant to real life that skill is. Pole Vaulting is a sport, even tiddly winks!! Concluding that pistol competitions are the work of the devil trying to turn us into gun wielding maniacs is as ridiculous/paranoid as saying pole vaulting only serves to help criminals escape from prisons.

You can't try to associate pistol shoooting against some relevant real life skill because there isn't one. Yes you can say shooting equips people to be murderers but like that General once supposedly said, all women are equipped to be prostitutes but that doesn't necessarily mean they are.

I never said that a sport had to be test of some-ones skill in a "real life scenario".

I was trying to point out how a civilian simply does not need these skills.

Military, for sure, but "James the plumber" from Hutt Vally simply does not.

I seem to keep having to repeat myself, I am not anti gun, I am simply questioning the validity of having a sport that glorifies urban combat, because that is what this video portrays.

Shooting targets through a window with a pistol (to me) is a macho ego rush.

I am not saying it is easy, far from it, but I see it as an unhealthy pass time for some people.

Look at what some half wit wrote about "shooting cars" WTF? how the hell is that healthy?

The "sport" shown in the video (complete with PS3 style "shoot em up" music) does nothing to portray gun enthusiasts in a good light, quite the opposite actually.

Maybe James the plumber is the best person to decide which skills he wants and needs, providing he doesn't infringe on anyone else's rights.

It's not your thing, so don't do it. I don't hear any of those actually doing it speaking of getting a macho ego rush. The shooting cars comment iirc did not come from someone that is involved in this sport or a club, yet you keep using that comment to denigrate those who are in a club.

Funnily enough a civilian does not need the following skills either:
    Pole Vault
    Luge
    Boxing
    Karate
Ability to make Rockets (like the model rocket club)

And yet people do - and most never go on to cause any harm with it. Because they simply do it for enjoyment.

Again - I have trouble seeing your link - perhaps if they were shooting targets of people etc. Paintball sounds more what you are talking about there - perhaps that should be banned?

FWIW - I never have the sound on my laptop - so I didnt hear the music.

But - your comment is interesting as it says more about you than the people you are criticizing. "does nothing to portray gun enthusiasts in a good light." that reminds me of the dipshits that call themselves car enthusiasts - when they are just dropkicks hooning around on the road.

Im not - and the majority of people I shoot with are not "gun enthusiasts" they enjoy the sport - not the weapons.

Whilst I enjoy shooting (and do it weekly) - shooting at a static target 25 mts away can get boring (I assume that sport is OK with you - although civilians dont need that skill either). You want to change it around a bit.

Im guessing there is no changing your mind - and thats OK. Im used to hand wringers. But here is one final point I will make:

My most prized possession in the world is my son. I love him to bits and I would die for him in a heartbeat. I take him along to this - and yep - he is now shooting with a .22 pistol. If I had ANY belief AT ALL that there were idiots there, or that there was any risk to him now or in the future (being behavior or a unhealthy association with shooting etc) - I would never do that.

As for the macho comment - thats not even worth mentioning - people with Rambo complexes generally never get their pistol licence.

if anyone has any real issues and dont want to be ignorant, or prehaps want to enlighten themselves and ask the educated ones questions.

go on the Pistol NZ website and find a local club. Attend it and ask questions and gain knowledge.
I attend a club and I dont consider myself some macho rambo, nor do I consider any other members as such.

Understand this. If anyone doesn't ask they are just choosing to be an ignorant tossers who probably should really mind their own business. And another thing to consider, if you have a sport that suits you and I dont like it. I'm not going to accuse anyone of being some psycho criminal or fool as such.
