    Quitting smoking

and spending the money on a bike instead. Am I crazy ? Smoking bad, smoking costs me ~$330 a month. I figure I could/should fill that void with a nice 2moker instead.

    Thoughts ?

Oh, im quitting regardless.. just seems like giving myself a reason (nice shiny aprilia) will help me out. Asking more about funneling the monies elsewhere, not whether I should actually quit ;p

Meh - dont commit the money too fast - a lot quit and start up again - and then you are up for two lots of payments - you dont want a bike you cannot afford.

Meh, not so much the money, 300 a month won't kill me either way. More seeing it in the garage every day, and there being a direct fiscal relationship. I start again, bike gets taken away and sold. Sadly, my friends probably would actually do that. (Means they're good friends, right ?)

Friend of mine promised his daughter that is he started again, he'd pay for a trip to Europe for her. Other people promise vacations and whatnot to themselves. I don't really do long term thinking, so that doesn't help me.

This is a thought process I'm after.. not quitting for extra $$.

Gave up over two years ago after smoking on and off for 23 years and have never looked back. If you can't do it cold turkey try Zyban it works. You may find that you have some very trippy dream (for free) and that heavy drinking is not recommended but think of the money for the bike!!

Good luck and think how nice you will smell and how nice food will taste when you're not smoking!!!

What have you found? The same old fears.

Tried patches before and they didn't take.. I've got a prescription for Champix now, which supposedly has 3x the efficacy of patches. Start taking it this weekend so I guess I'll find out. Drinking is not much of a problem, have maybe 1 beer a month or so as it is.

Didn't rate patches either. Zyban is an antidepressant that they found stopped smoking in those taking it. Maybe Champix also works at a neurological level. I am sure that if you keep a pic of the bike you want to buy in your wallet you will have some constant motivation and something that will maybe stop you buying some fags if you get the urge! I guess 1 beer a month wouldn't pose a problem!! what bike do you want to buy?

Champix is a direct nicotinic receptor partial agonist, means intake of nicotine has very little effect as well as subduing desire for more. So you start the first week of pills while still smoking, then the second week stop smoking and continue for 10 more afterwards.

Yep that is the same as Zyban.

Sweet bike. Bloody good reason to quit smoking!!

Pick up Allan Carrs easyway to quit smoking and read that sucker. I chain smoked for 10 years and quit easy using the book. His writing style sucks and he comes across as a complete ego monster, but the logic is sound and it works. Best $30 I ever spent.
Stop showing up to the beating.

Today's my last day of smoking, too.

Surprisingly enough - it's so I can start smoking. Two-smoking.

Like for you, an RS250 is the goal. Race you there?

After 3 attempts I finally did it on the third one.

November 20, 2009 was my last cigarette. January 20, 2010 I bought myself a motorbike. I won't smoke again for if I do the bike goes. Simple. I had smoked for over 30 years, can't even think about how much that cost me. The bike is way cheaper, is way more fun and I don't stink!! (much)

Go for it, but give yourself some time before you commit to the purchase. I decided I had had enough and just went cold turkey, I have the patches up in the bedroom should I need to use one, still haven't so I think I'm fine.

All the best, giving up is the best gift you can give yourself.
