You will loose a fat wad of cash buying a new one of those and selling it a few years later. Second-hand ones are just as nice, only a few less hp, use marginally more fuel, and at least you have some hope of them holding their value.
Make sure you ride the Comet as well as the R, although the Comets can feel a little jittery in the front when two-up compared to the R.
edit: um, I assume you are on your full license? If not, it's an $800 fine being caught with pillion.
