A big thanks to all who helped with the new sprocket tonight! What a difference! Wow, she now feels like a very happy bike and goes like the clappers too!
It is nice not having to be in top gear when just cruising at 50k around town ...

    getting closer, Kind of flagged another xr600/650 , rode a drz400 , looked at some ktm's (450).
Road legal wr450's like hens teeth........

So think a hot , light 450cc might be the go. and make a spare set of motard wheels.

Did ya go up 1 or 2 teeth on the front sprocket?

Good to hear! Then you'll be able to leave me waaay behind on the road AND the dirt!

I went down two teeth on the back from 15/41 to 15/39. Much happier on the road now and still great off road. Going up the Bridle Path today (and Huntsbury and Rapaki) got pretty steep but 1st, 2nd and 3rd no worries for the whole hill. Whew!

"Make" a spare set of motard wheels? Howso? Might have to watch how you do it so I can do something similar to the DR.

What I'd like is a spare set with more road type tyres on so I can simply unbolt the knobblies then thrown on the road wheels and away. Apparently it's pretty hard to make Motard wheels fit right without having to adjust the disks and/or caliper. If you can do that then I'd love to see how you do it ...

Ok .take it 15 tooth is max size for the front.

from a engineering background , old man has a factory/workshop full of lathes, mills , welders etc etc , Just machine up new spacers/ axle/ mounts etc for some suitable donor road bike tubeless rims.

Really just a time thing . Bikes have a ranking of second or third at the moment in the spare time stakes.
We'll have to swap bikes next season then.............. I'm sure you'll have fun trying to catch ya beemer.........
