Restarting stored bike

Hello,

I have had my Kawasaki ZXR250c in storage for quite some time now. I am going to attempt to rebuild and restart it in the next few weeks. I'm guessing the battery may be no good anymore and I may need to get a new one. When I recharged it, I heard it bubbling slightly though it did seem to take the charge. I'll try it but I'm not holding much hope.

There was no petrol in the tank so I will also be filling it up with petrol and re-attaching the tank again.

I'm not expecting my bike to start initially. What should I be looking at doing to get it working when it doesn't? Should I only try to start it a few times before waiting a while so it doesn't flood, etc? Basically after turning the key and pressing the starter, if it doesn't go I'm a bit stuck.

strip and clean your carbs, fuel left in them will possibly have left a vanish like coating if fuel was left in the bowls

Consider taking the stator cover off and rotating the engine 6-8 turns by hand and see if a piston touches a valve. If there are no nudges in the motor, try a little spin on the starter. Then I'd gas it up and go for it. You might find it just goes.

If it wont run, then yeah carbs, spark plugs, and then high idle it and let it warm up fully. If you really are going to rebuild the engine, theres no point starting it and I certainly wouldn't try.

Just put some fresh fuel in it, change th eoil and filter and light 'er up.

Worked for my bike that had been sitting for about 11 years.

my bike i had to lube the cluch cable and kicked it over to make sure it was free clean the carb out fresh gas fresh 2 stroke oil and charged the battery

Make sure there's nothing expensive in front of it the first time you put it in gear.

if all else faills, like in my case, open up and check the spark plugs, my ones were full of carbon buildup so i replaced them. bike turned over fine after that....

Charge battery. Drain carbs if you have em. Put fresh fuel in tank. Take out plugs and squirt some WD40 down there. Pull clutch cable a few times. Crank engine with plugs out. Replace plugs. Say a prayer. Start the fucker. Bump start the fucker. Swear like fuck once you get your breath back. Get a jump start from car. Keep swearing. Get a tow start from a mate. Lose balance and fall over. Go to bed. Take bike to shop for proper service.

With those lil 4 cylinder bikes the issues are 1) gunged up carbs and 2) corrosion build up on the valves.
degunging the carbs is easy but if the valves are rusty the head may need to come off and the valves/seats cleaned up
