What the ?! Logic and reasoning? But I wasn't expecting this. I totally agree. (The study I cited does examine police attitudes to complaints though).

If my mother, or sister, or partner, or niece (or any person) went to the police with a complaint, I would really hope they give that person a fair hearing and aren't closed minded from the outset. But then, I'd also dearly hope that they weren't making it up!

Of course we all want rapists prosecuted but I think this thread highlights why it is hard to prosecute because most of the time its one persons word against the other.
I have always said I would rather 10 criminals go free than one person wrongfully convicted.

In order to prove that, they have to go and recount the detail of the abuse they have sustained to 3 professionals, and sustain questions about the abuse. Once that is done they then have to say they are mentally unwell.

..and if they weren't before, they probably would be, after that!

...it rather says something about guys who, because a woman is drunk and agrees to sex, she is automatically a slut! The guy is willing...he's just a lad, the woman is willing - she is automatically denigrated to someone of lesser worth, because alcohol has lowered her discretion level ....... are women not allowed to like sex as much as men - obviously not!

False Rape Complaints Annoy Police


Hamilton police will decide this week whether to charge two women who made separate false rape complaints at the weekend.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Keall said police spent time and resources investigating the women's complaints.

"It's just a waste of resources that could have been used elsewhere."

Both complaints were lodged on Friday.

One was made by an 18-year-old and the other by a 19-year-old.

Senior investigators estimate that between 60 and 80 per cent of rape complaints made by women are false.

Mr Keall said false complaints tainted the community's perception of sexual offending and the genuine victims who needed support.

He said there was also a difference between people making complaints of stranger rapes and making allegations against a specific person, which could sometimes be malicious.

Have seen first hand what a mum/dad abused me charge causes the inocent victim,being villified by social welfare/cyps,even after the judge throws the case out after 30mins of police evidence from said victim.Meant the person couldn't see their kids(from first marriage)for 13yrs without approval from the govt agency,and then the foster care the kids were in meant both kids(boy and girl)were molested by caregivers partner.

Can see how it happens,dad says I want custody of kids,mum says I'll say you abused the kids,up to you to prove inocent,father then says ok,but want access,then gets messy,no wonder fathers do murder-suicide shit.

I was up for MAF and this was after I had called 111 9 times over a year to get the drunk crazy woman removed from my house as she wouldnt leave.

The cops never enforced the protection order I sought after she broke in a few times, even though it was granted by the court.
