Great a oil debate.......... Ok who is using what?

I use Valvolene 20w40 mixed fleet lube in everything but the harley which has HD syn3 youknow the one it has tassels on the bottle.

I buy bulk packs of the valvolene when I see them on sale and use the same oil in every car and bike I own.

At the moment I usually use Spectro 4 SAE 10w40.
Using it in the DR650, CRF230, KLX125 and was using it in Js GSX600 when she had it.

I'm sure they will suggest something from their range if you ask when you get there.
It probably don't matter which you use as much as changing it regularly does. A lot of us (me included) do filters every time too where as others do filters every second time.

Spectro is about $50 for 4 liters. DR650 filters about $15. IIRC.

I'd like a cheaper oil... off to look up Flips Valvolene now.

4T is non synthetic, $40-something for 4 litres. Seemed to work OK in my XJ. It's 15W-50 rather than 10W-40 but I can't see that making a huge difference when you look at the temp ranges for different oils in the manual.

Weather looks good for tomorrow, other than possibly a bit breezy, so hopefully I should be able to make it for a blat to Akaroa.

I like ELF 10/40 semi syn. Available from most bike shops-I use it in the GSXR 750, the 600, the Motard and the bucket. About $55-4L.

I stand corrected Valvolene diesel extra. 15W40 SL. love the stuff. Landrover loves it too.

About the only diference between these medium diesel oils and passanger vehicle oil is the diesel oil has a stronger detergent package, just don't use them if the car has a cat because the metal molecule in the detergent pollutes the cat.

went to budget motorcycle spares, i got 4 liters of oil and a filter for $80, the oil was $62. but i'll need to buy another 1 litre for the next oil change as this oil change will be 2 point something litres apparently.

im wondering if there is a wee washer type thing that will need replacing as well? to do with the sump or the bolt thing that you undo when removing the current oil.

Never replaced that sump bung washer yet but sometimes looking at it I think it could use a new one.
Careful not to strip ya threads etc etc. Damned if you leave it too loose, damned if you over tighten it.

im not keen to start a debate an oil on this site, people just start having hissy fits...
I get some Synthetic special motorcycle only oil from Budget. It's good stuff, especially for smaller engines that have a hard life
Can't remember what it's called tho but it came highly recommended.
