Well yeah, it was the era of the androgynous pop star. The more girly the man was, the hotter the girls seemed to find them.
Nobody assumed George Michael was bent either, till he was outed and you see the pink cardigans in retrospect.

I was doing a lot of Harry Nilsson in 1975.
