    Nobody seems to know for sure who wrote the song. Both the Safaris (WipeOut) and The Leaves did it in 1965. The Byrds did it in/around 1966. Hendrix put his own spin on Hey Joe in/around 1967. Deep Purple did it Hendrix-esque in 1969.
