Fireams licence not an acceptable form of ID

Every now and again, I get a different type of drivers licence, and have my licence card taken off by the testing officer and then I have a temporary licence for a few weeks. Why is it that when I go into a pub or try to buy alcohol from a shop, I often get refused service because a firearms licence is 'not a valid form of ID'. It has my full name on it, date of birth and a pic of me. Just like a driver licence.

Unfortunatley, a firearms licence is not a document in the prescribed form. The only one that is is the Hospitality 18 year old card.

    From Sale of Liquor Act:

2A Meaning of term evidence of age document

    • (1) For the purposes of this Act, the term evidence of age document means a document specified in subsection (2) that—
      • (a) Contains a photograph of the person to whom the document is issued; and

      • (b) Contains information that enables the age of the person to be determined.
      (2) For the purposes of subsection (1), a document is—
      • (a) A New Zealand passport; or

      • (b) An overseas passport; or

      • (d) A document in the prescribed form issued by a specified person, organisation, body corporate, Government department, Crown agency, or statutory board.
      (3) For the purposes of subsection (2),—
      • (a) The term prescribed means prescribed by the Minister by notice in the Gazette:

      • (b) The term specified means specified by the Minister by notice in the Gazette

Because with a firearms licence you have to have the police come to your home, interview both you and your partner, and have police background checks completed.

With a Drivers licence - you turn up with a utility bill at the AA and do a scratch and win.

oh hang on - that dont make scene.

edit: They have YOU a firearms licence?

As an aside, those with a shooters license are a potential problem in the eyes of some police.

I never show mine for ID, and am careful who I mention it to, as it can lower your standing amongst some people.

Some may even take talk of guns and license as a subtle threatening or intimidating gesture.

It works fine at the gun shop. Show them this ID card and you get a gun!

You get refused service because you look like a god-damned twelve year-old.

The problem will go away once you're old enough to start shaving.

A drivers license is not a valid form of id either and does not have to be accepted as such.

I don't look like a 12 year old and I'm old enough to shave.

A drivers license is always the only ID acceptable to f#@kwits. I regularly offer other ID and enjoy the panic and refusals that follow.

Yep, always puzzled me this "It's not I.D." thing.

Shoot, it's way harder to get a FAL than a 1L drivers licence - yet the driver licence is accepted??

    Agreed.

Tried to tell this to the monkeys at Foodtown but they cared not.
