    Serious about sponsorship?

Having a website is a great way to have an online CV for sponsorship to promote yourself and keep everyone informed

A friend of mine is offering a deal for anyone that is keen, he will build and maintain a website for you for free!

He has just chucked one together for me using some pics off facebook and some race reports untill i can give him some better info but check it out and see what you think.

Dont look to close its just a demo at this stage but check out the layout etc

    sloanfrost.co.nz

Oh the only charge is $39 per month to cover hosting fees, domain name and to manage your updates

    PM me for more details

So how the fuck is $468 per year free? If he's a "mate" of yours then you're being raped.. Hosting fees are next to fuck all....say....$5 or $10 per month. Domain name is about $35 per year. You're site is very 90's too...tables etc.

I'll still offer any racer a free site (I'd suggest using Wordpress as it's easy). Just buy the domain name at $40 and you're off. eg. http://timmcarthur.co.nz/ or http://www.ducatiracing.co.nz

Because most of us are not computer IT geeks.... Aye Craig? The website is free, he builds the whole thing for you which would take at least 5 hours with fine tuning so thats worth the $400 a year hosting fees in itself. He then maintains the site with all your updates throughout the year and pays for the hosting and whatever else you pay for.

I dont really care if it looks too 90s for you, its an informative website i dont want lots of bullshit going on.

He is obviously not doing this to make a fortune he is just doing it cause he loves bikes. Its funny the different attitudes when it comes to sponsorship, some people are willing to grab every opportunity and some are not. It seems to be these people that bitch and moan that they dont have sponsors too.....

Orcon's most basic package is $18/mth for hosting and a .co.nz domain name - $216/year - there are cheaper options too.

Judging from website work I've done in the past that looks like about $150-200 work tops, and that's not even charging 'mates rates'.

If you want to get your name out there and impress your sponsors then surely you'd want it to look professional - I guess it depends what your overall plans and goals are.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

So do they build your site for you and manage all your updates for that?

Have a look at Ray Clees site. Looks professional to me, easy to use etc.

Look guys take from it what you will. Its just a suggestion and if you think you can get a better deal somewhere else go get it. Its a great form of advertising for yourself if you want to make it work and if your serious about getting some sponsorship etc

It makes me laugh all the people on here all the time wanting sponsorship etc but your not willing to do f/a about it when it comes down to it. Sometimes it means spending a bit of money to get some good publicity like press realeases or websites etc.

There is a classic example of a guy on here who is always basically just asking people to sponsor him. I offered him a chance to do some testing on some Carbon Fibre wheels and he would have been featured in a few magazines etc but he didnt want to do it unless he entry was paid for the day, had a couple of sets of tyres supplied, someone to adjust his suspension etc etc WTF! So the offer passed him by and he missed all the publicity. All he had to do is grab an old set of slicks, do a few laps with the rims at the next track day or test day he was at, ramble some shit and reap the rewards.

Your all sort of missing the point here....

I'll state again, I can't see how the hell you think the website is free?
30 minutes tops as I don't believe for a second there's been any "fine tuning" on that website.
I'd hardly call Tim Mcarthur or the Anglo American motorcycle club IT geeks but they seem to manage putting race reports, sponsors links, photos and videos onto their simple wordpress sites.

OK, then if you're paying for it, it should look professional and be search engine friendly. Fail on both accounts. Mate doing it for a box of piss, fine. Guy charging nearly $500 a year....fucking rip off.

So would you let me spraypaint your bike if I did it cheap just because I "love bikes" ?

Last but not least. Hope that's not your primary email address in plain text on the site unless you really enjoy getting spam.

I can see Steevies point Sloan. $500.00 - 600.00 per year is imposible to be refered to as FREE . When Steve alludes to a much cheaper option with what may be a better presentation/ look (what do i know im a mechanic) why is he wrong to inform you and others of any secondary option.
Sure its not you mate's web hosting site and Steve is a mate of mine but realisticlally hes actually being quite informative and wasnt critical anymore than a person that works in any industry that sees an option thats not overly awesome.

I agreee with your angle / aspect of self promotion and i applaude you for suggesting it as we can all do with a bit of help at times , but its a sad day when we cant take advice from an industry leader like Steevie on such matters.

OK so it's not the cheapest option but for some people the cost might be worth saving the hassle of researching and organising it for themselves.

As another option that is completely free and easy to use - I'm setting up a blog here dkempthorne.blogspot.com, which is easy to update and customise. You can have yourname.blogspot.com so it's fairly professional looking. I haven't really added any photos to mine yet but you could probably get it looking quite good.

As Brendan mentioned, donn't forget about Visordown.co.nz - he puts in alot of work into it for us racers and it's free to put your profile on there!
