I like the fact that I can go out and not have to put all of my clothes in the laundry immediately upon my return home (otherwise they made the room smell). I like being able to eat without the smell of smoke.
I'm an ex-smoker (I guess) who picks it up and puts it down from time to time. Recently started having puffs of friends cigarettes again, but a bout of flu got rid of any desires along those lines. Will occasionally fall mouthfirst onto a the filter end of a lit cigarette while out - but have to be really influenced by alcohol.
The cost of cigarettes is so high here. When I first smoked (13 - in the Middle East) you could get a pack of Marlboro Light 100's for NZ$2. No wonder all us kids did it. I hate living in a house with a smoker - unless they've already decided to smoke outside. (and I notice that many have made that decision).
Yay to the people who've given up - it DOES take willpower if you're addicted. Fortunately, I never was. Just orally obsessed...
It is easier to accept the message of the stars than the message of the salt desert. The stars speak of man's insignificance in the long eternity of time; the desert speaks of his insignificance right now. - Edwin Way Teale 1956
