    C R special carbs?

Can anyone give me a heads-up on tuning C R carbs? Looking for the order of operations, like what to do after stripping and cleaning them.

Howdy, much much to know about this subject.
The best starting point is to ensure all jets and airways are cleam and free of obstructions.
Ensure the needle and seat for the float shut off are in good condition.
If the bike is standard check the jets and needle and needle positions are all standard.
Set the float level first, set the main needle on the correct factory setting, ie the height of the needle.
Re assemble carb and set the idle mixture at factory setting.
From here on in it should at least run.
Further fine tunning can be achieved by swapping out needles, jets . adjusting low end mixtures, etc etc
The other factors that need to be taken into account are the fact you need to have the valve clearances set corerctly, the cam and ignition timming set perfectly, the correct spark plug, plug leads and plug cap.
Other factors that dramatically effect carb tunning are Exhausts, air filters and atmospheric conditions.
There is plenty of good reading in specific books and on the net.

This is going to be voyage of discovery, huh? Bike is a GS 550, been ported and polished, Dyna s ignition, non standard exhaust etc. Has run well, but all new too me. I guess factory settings become irrelivant, so feeling my way into all this! Will clean all then see how she runs! Appreciate your input, cheers Matt.

Go to the Keihin site , it has a good blurb on set up and tuning. Worth a look anyhow.

If you can track the info down on the Keihin site - I didn't find it easy - the settings and jet sizes the carbs you have, come with, are the best starting place.
Inevitably they've been changed by PO's but even with non stock pipe etc the original as sold jets and settings are the best starting place.
