    RG150 gearbox oil?

So I think it's about time to top up the gearbox with some oil. What oil should I be using? I've searched through the forums and no decent answer to my simple question.

Also anyone know where I can get one of those temp gauge thingys that bolt into the top part of the engine? Mine decided that the little metal bit that joined up to the wire was bad and broke and now I don't know what temp my bike is running at.

A motorcycle 10w-40, any motorcycle shop should be able to sell you some or even supercheap but don't go putting car motor oil in, it may make your clutch slip.

Oil is a huge issue and there are a few threads about which one is better and some folks seem to get quite emotive about the topic, I wont recommend Yamaha lube semi synthetic, it made my gearbox feel horrid.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

Okay cool, I'll stay away from Yamaha stuff then.

I am using Mobil Super 1000 x2 15W-40 Multigrade Oil in my gearbox and haven't had any problems with it at all. You can buy it at Mobil Service Station for around $12.00 a Litre.
The Specifications recommend a good quality SAE 20W/40 Multigrade Motor Oil. I add 50 mls more that the 1050 mls specifies.

I always used Castrol VMX in my RG150 and RGV250, that's what most people I've heard from use in their RG's.

It's a manual gearbox oil, costs piss all and you can buy it from Supercheap Auto.

Most excellent oil it is too.

Another thing to note for the RG150 is if you ever start to hear a slight high pitch squeel or squeak (doesn't sound too serious) as you get high in the revs the gearbox oil is probably just a tad low - as said put the extra wee bit in when you change it.

Its a bit heavy, that's a straight 80 weight oil and I am pretty sure that it contains anti friction agent that will affect the clutch. Castrol recommend power 1 or power 1 racing which are both rather expensive oils but none the less a standard 4T motorcycle oil.

Castrol VMX in my RGV, works well, has the rating that Suzuki specified.
