My boss always says that denture are a good alternative to having no teeth - not a good alternative to your own teeth. From what I have been told, the younger you have your teeth out (like your Mum at 20) the easier it is to cope and learn to eat with dentures. The worse thing is seeing old people in their 80s getting dentures and they can't cope with them.

i just had one of my front teeth replaced. They drill a hole in your jawbone and put a stud in and then screw a tooth onto the stud. No plate so thats good. Cost $7k ish.

I do my own dentistry with my trusty gerber multitool.

The last one I snapped off at the gum line so after trying to pry it out with a flat head screw driver I reluctantly went to the dentist... After updating his computer to reflect the seven I have taken out he ripped the rest of the snapped one out.

He said to take the rest out he would charge me $120 for the first and $20 for every one out after that. Going to try and negotiate as might be able to save a few dollars on jabs, if its a no goer I'll stick with ripping them out myself and when they are all gone I'll go get dentures.

I still have a temp filling done at Linton 15 years ago and its the only tooth that's actually lasted. Was done by a UK Army Dentist on 'long look'.

Have you considered having the dentistry done in Asia? I've read that you can get the work done to a very high standard, plus a bit of an overseas holiday, for a lot less than you'd pay for the same work here.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Once you decide that dentures are no good and that you wished you kept your teeth, you can always go for implant$$$$$$$

OK, maybe they have some premises and technology loan costs, and they have to pay a nurse and a receptionist, and royalties on that fucking irritating music they play all the time, another $100k per year. Hell, make it $200k, that means they're only making out like robbers (just like the rest of the medical fraternity) for half of the year.

I expect that stuff has a long lifespan, so can be financed/depreciated over a suitable term. Besides. lots of businesses need expensive plant, most of them don't rob us to quite the same degree as dentists and other medicos though.

A former dentist had pictures of his yacht on the walls, with charts showing his trips through various nice destinations. At least he was being honest and I knew what I was paying for.

    Well, he would, wouldn't he?

I've never met a dentist who could have a reasonable discussion with me about false teeth (implants don't count).

I was in the same boat a couple of years ago. After I broke a front tooth the decision was made to go false. I had the option of going bumpy gums for 3 months or an immediate denture. Got the denture sorted then had 12 top teeth removed and the denture fitted. Wasn't allowed to take it out for a week. Lots of blood and salty mouth washes. The denture cost about $800 but the extractions were $1200. All paid off now!

The up-side is I can smile again without embarrassment. The down-side, I cant spit cherry pips anymore. The denture looks nothing like my own teeth. I have heard of a technician in Tauranga who can make a set to look more like my original teeth. I have lost my bite...cant bite an apple. When riding I always worry if I crash my teeth will fly out and get broken but I did have a bin on the track a couple of weeks ago and my teeth stayed in!

For me it was worth it. I'm glad I still have my lower teeth but still have the cost of maintaining them.
