Its a road bike i assume, meaning the crashes will alwaye be 110 or less...
kevlar jeans and REAL boots are sweet, id go for a drcent leather jacket cos leather will last a crash or 4 and be repairable, whereas textile will be stuffed after coming off the luge cart.

Lol, wut?! Ever worn gumboots? I've never had to waddle in gumboots with full kit on and B.A on my back! They are'nt stillettos bro!

They are just slightly less comfortable than shoes. I've been wearing boots all day at work for the last 9 years....so I find them actually pretty comfortable. Under jeans they just look likeshoes, kinda. They are'nt as comfortable as shoes but not far off really. Just make sure you get more of a commuter boot if you plan to wear them all day. They are'nt as protective as full-on road race boots but they are more protective than the riding shoes, yet still practical.

Leathers all the way, and proper Boots. No compromise. Unless you want cheap tattoo removal.

AMPS have got some Bell helmets for about $330. The specs are good (5* SHARP, composites etc) and I got shown one today (OutforaDuck's): it looks good and and he reckons the ventilation is brilliant. If I was helmet shopping right now I'd be up there trying one on.

Edit: found a link to what looks like the one I had a look at here.

Thats Great! Thanks for all the help fellas. I get the gist of it now...

This is my first bike in NZee and there's lots to take in. I've been riding for years in India with not a stitch of protective clothing on. Never fell in spite of the ridiculous traffic, but there definitely needs to be more focus on safety there... Some day maybe.

    happy riding

Shoei - Coz I've tried on, weighed, seen a few. They seem to be quality. Dont want to compromise on head gear ($499 sounds reasonable)
Hybrid jacket - They are more abrasive resistant than textile, more water resistant than leather. And I cant afford two jackets, 'sides the rev'it' hybrid looks real cool
Kevlar jeans with hip and knee guards / Leather ankle shoes - Both of these because I assumed they offer the same degree of preotection and can be worn when I take the bike around town, going out, whatever, etc (where would I change?) Would my jeans really come off in an off lol..?

The above thinking I hope is a perfect marriage of a generous helping of safety and useful convinience. Tell me if this is going to end in tears...
    on a "Gixxer"? do you mean a 1000cc K9, or a fucked 22 year old 250?

    Try here mate

www.1tonne.co.nz ask for Nathan, tell him I advised you to contact him.

I took a look through his retail outlet over the weekend, and was very impressed with quality as well as stock on hand, NOT to mention the great prices for this product
