How do you read the negative reputation stats?

Another thing, there is a recent thread where I got 15+ green blings - but when I saw my 'top rep posts' (or whatever it's called) I see no mention of this thread but a lot of other threads where I only got 5 or so 'blings'

How does that work?

Does 'bling' on rant or rave etc not count to your top rep posts or something?

Blue is reputation given (either red or green) by someone that does not have enough posts and or positive reputation themselves to have any weight to their rep.

Im good at it, but I get positive rep for it...always have done....just over 100,000 dollars, opps I mean points, long may the stirring continue and those that can do it for the right reason prosper and bask in the wonderful comment left by bling fairies.

No, no, no. As I said above, the two figures are not related. 343 is the total number of red reps. 14239 is his rep point "score", not the total number of reps received.

I prefer to dish out the green. It's like a KB hug.

People aren't banned on the basis of rep, it's a completely meaningless statistic which is easily manipulated for positive or negative.

And yes, most people dish out mainly green, to posts that they feel deserve it.

green = good
red = bad
yellow = infraction
so what is blue?

Infractions are separate from the rep system.

If you get a blue / grey rep, it is from a newbie with no rep themselves, and therefore has zero point value.

Wow, somebody with just over 600 posts total has waaay more green bling/post ratio than me

The rep system gives a major insight into human nature.

Indeed, many of those high on the rep ladder have low post counts. They are invariably part of "rep rings", groups of individuals who work together on a daily basis to boost each other's rep. Effectively they stand in circles, giving each other a "rep reach-around".

They will invariably deny the existence of such rings, but the individual rep stats and the associated rep comments speak for themselves.

What exactly they think they're awarding themselves is a mystery - it's a bit like giving each other Monopoly money from the box, and convincing themselves that they're "winning the game". It's all rather childish really.

The downside of such silliness is that many of those who collect rep with such avarice, will use their rep power to bully others with red rep. Many of those at the top of the red rep ladder have been put there by co-ordinated bullying by the rep rings.

I think some of the time at least the rep system is used more to give a private comment on a post rather than the whole positive negative thing. 'Tis faster than a pm

Agreed it is faster... like if I wanted to tell a particular someone that it is indeed only one more sleep before I fly down to see em, then I would probably bling messeage them.
