Thumbs down Pizza Hutt online credit card delivery orders. Has this happened to you?

I have been debited twice for my pizza order on Friday night.

There I was thinking about making a Margarita and fetching kid friendly dinner...mmmm bugger it - online I go!

So order made, paid, delivered and enjoyed and the next day I notice that me funds a little bit lighter than they should be. Check it out and low and behold pizza hutt have debited my card for the same amount twice.

When I queried this I was told that drivers apply a credit hold to peoples accounts before they leave for delivery and that it will drop off after a couple of days but maybe up to a week.

FIRSTLY This is NOT listed in their T&Cs....

Secondly given the online order was processed and accepted on my credit card prior to the order going through for preparation it seems unecessary

THIRDLY this hasn't happened to me before

AND finally MY account is now short for 'however long it takes for this hold to drop off'.

Unacceptable! I have the sneaking suspicion that the spotty git on the end of the phone is actually all bullshit and that actually the bastards HAVE just processed the thing twice.

Whatever...Had I known this I'd have just picked up the damn order, delaying my Margarita binge thus saving myself money in the first instance and ensuring my account was not left twice as short for the 'apparent convenience of having an order delivered'

I've asked that they rectify it and explain how it fits with their standard practises for online credit card delivery orders. Wankers

SO has this happened to anyone else or does it sound like the porkies it does to me...

We have this happen sometimes at work too, it generally happens when the order fails to process originally, but then goes through a little later. The computer system automatically bills you twice, and it does take a few days for a reversal unfortunately because credit cards just arent as simple as debit cards. The problem is not the company, but rather the entire online-purchasing system, and is often not helped by the dodgy internet connections so prevalent in NZ.

The only way to be sure this wont happen really is to pay cash, or for our customers, request mobile eftpos
    Yeah, nah.

Not with Pizza Hut, but years ago at Countdown. Paid for groceries ( a big shop) with my credit card, the transaction was entered for the wrong amount, I did not authorise it and the checkout chick re-entered the correct amount. A few days later my card declined Impossible, I had heaps of limit, but apparently not, as the first incorrect amount had been placed on hold, therefore no longer available. I was ropable, but there was nothing that could be done, even the credit card company would not release the hold as my request, as the vendor had placed it, only they could remove it or some such crap.

Pisses you right off when that happens for sure.

Goto hells pizza instead, come to taradale one and grab a voucher that entitles you to a free dessert pizza with one double ordered, you get two coupons. valid till end of the year.

(not trying to advertise or anything but they are the best pizzas ever from a franchise)

Oh and probably something that people should know too. When you hire a vehicle and they take your credit card for the excess on any insurance cover that amount is also placed on hold for the duration. Easy to get caught.

Good advice. I did already know this - but only because I had the experience of finding out during a hireage. However I later discovered it was written in the small print - which was sent to you after you accpeted the rental Now I'm wiser - but plenty of others no doubt get caught too

Hotels often do this as well. Even if you've been comped a room (??)

I've never noticed Pizza Hut doing that. I do know someone who had their CC details pinched by a Pizza Hut operator - apparently when they're busy they divert calls to operators at home to enter them...... Which is also not something they advertise.

This thread reminded me - I checked my Mastercard and found I have been charged twice for some bus tickets about 3 weeks ago. Cheers

Yep, happened to me when I won a weekend away at Puka Park in Pauanui. Took my credit card details in case we used the mini bar or made phone calls and when we checked out I paid the $38 of extras we'd used with cash. Got home and a few days later the other half asked if I'd put about a grand on the credit card - nope, not me! Bastards had charged us for the two nights, dinner, massage, etc that had been part of my prize - $925 worth! They reversed it after I rang them but they lied about how it had happened. They reckoned they'd written the credit card number of the company who was paying for it down wrong, and when they rang them to check the number, the woman there gave them MY credit card details. That was absolute bullshit as I'd never given those details to her, all she'd asked for were the names of the people travelling so she could book the flights.

Do petrol stations attached to supermarkets still do that? I've heard they put a hold of something like $150 upfront when you swipe your card and then whatever your fuel costs on top of that.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Ring your credit card issuer immediately.

This happened to me last month with Dominoes, I rang the bank that same day. The bank said they said they have no legal right to charge you twice for something, when you only receive one of the product, it's your money not theirs and they cannot hold you to ransom for it.

The lady sorted it out for me all on the phone, the money was back after I logged out of internet banking and then back in.

If I was you i'd have a very disputes tribunal'ish' phone call with said Pizza hut manager. You will most likely get some vouchers out of it.

That is not legal. All matters of interest to the customer must be available at the time of purchase. This is basic Target or Fair Go stuff.

No, and have used them a couple of times.

Frankly their website is shite, and they could learn a lot from Dominos. Their pizza is maybe a little better in any case, although their Apricot Chicken is inferior to Pizza Hutts. And no, I don't like that shitty Hell Pizza pizza, or Spagalimis for that matter (although Spags is edible if you dine in and get it piping hot).

Dominos also have (ok now I sound like their advertising department) the best range of dessert... Creme Brules for the win, and that gooey chocolate cake thingy mmmmmmmmmm I honestly can't believe that Pizza Hutt are pushing their shitty pasta range so hard when their dessert range is the same useless crap it has been for years (unless something has happened recently?).
