Only with car hire for me. They tried to charge me twice for the fuel bill (via CC), then sent a letter from the UK telling me to pay yet another charge... took several weeks to sort out...

Well, this is something you cannot do anything about - I did not read it before we left the country, but certainly did upon return - by then the trip was done, so was the relationship with that particular car company - due to other issues they wouldn't let us do - like shorten the time frame due to a family death etc, so all in all - I will only ever deal with reputable companies like hertz or avis, not back yard ones off the internet - lesson learnt, but I was glad my credit card would not work for them that day - funny thing is, it worked everywhere else I needed it toso someone was watching out for me

Update.
It was actually WESTPACs cock up. They procesed the authorisation check aswell as the transaction as debits only on the Debit Cards though.
Nice young man from Pizza hut on phone today - explaining that they are aware of the issue and will provide confirmation for refund and should have my money back tomorrow.
We shall see
